Interface

[edit]

2017 wikitext editor is what makes adds visual tools to source editing (replace very old UI)

Use ⇧ Shift+Alt for keyboard shortcuts

Talk

[edit]

{{tq|quoted text}} produces quoted text (compare {{xt|example text}} producing example text)

Most inline icons like  Done are just the word(s) like {{done}}. (Don't overuse these.)

todo: diff templates

Civility

[edit]

Anonymous text-based communication is hard.

  • Consciously review WP:AGF before saving. This goes double for inexperienced editors making mistakes.
  • Err on the side of nice. Put a positive spin. Use softer language. Qualify statements. Kiss babies.
  • Avoid italics and especially boldface in general – it sticks out more than you think.
  • Repetition is fine if it's not painfully obvious.

Citations

[edit]

See Help:Citation Style 1#Templates. Help:Citation Style 2 is very similar, differing in punctuation. Choosing templates: focus more on whether the displayed cite adequately expresses metadata than matching source type exactly to stated type in template.

Page numbers: unless shortened footnotes in use, use {{rp|1}} or {{rp|1-2}}.[a]

  1. ^ Named parameters are not necessary. See WP:CITEPAGE.
[edit]

If it's obviously promotional, just remove it as WP:LINKSPAM.
