Run to the Beat is the first [1] half marathon event to be held in London[citation needed]. The inaugural event will be held in the London borough of Greenwich in October.

Event Information

[edit]

The route starts and finishes at The O2. Runners then head along the river towards the Thames Barrier, past Firepower - The Royal Artillery Museum, the Royal Artillery Barracks and Greenwich Park. A main stage will be located next to the start/finish line and bands will play at 16 stations along the route.

The theory behind the event comes from Dr Costas Karageorghis[2], associate professor of sport pyschology at Brunel University. His research[3] claims to show that selecting the right tunes could improve individual performance by 20 per cent,[4] depending on a number of factors.

Competitor Information

[edit]

All runners must be over 18-years-old and fit and well on race day. Ballot entries have closed but entries are still open via one of the many charities supporting the event.[5] Event organisers expect more than 12,000 people to take part.[6]

Official Charity

[edit]

Leukaemia Research is a British charitable organisation, established in 1960, dedicated to the fight against Leukaemia, Hodgkin's and other lymphomas and myeloma. More than 24,500 people in the UK are diagnosed with a blood cancer each year.[7] Anyone at any age can be diagnosed with a blood cancer, but it is the main cause of cancer death in the under 35’s.[8]

Sponsorship

[edit]

On July 16, 2008 Sony Ericsson were named as the title sponsor of the event.[9]
