Recent copy edits and current styles

[edit]

The article has recently undergone a significant round of copy edits, many thanks especially to Twofingered Typist and 84.64.237.205. There is now quite a high degree of consistency throughout the article in terms of written style and other conventions (often covered by MOS, but sometimes not). To avoid unnecessarily going back and forth between styles in future, here are the current general areas of style consistency as I see them:

  • British English
  • spaced en dashes where appropriate (generally using {{snd}}), en dashes between numbers, no em dashes
  • non-breaking space between day number and month in dates
  • brief descriptions of people named as authorities when first introduced
  • commas after opening phrase such as "In 2015,"
  • no dup links other than those that also appear in the lead (obviously, but dup links are often re-introduced by drive-by editors)
  • full name of person on first use, surname afterwards
  • quote punctuation: "If the quotation is a single word or a sentence fragment, place the terminal punctuation outside the closing quotation mark. When quoting a full sentence, the end of which coincides with the end of the sentence containing it, place terminal punctuation inside the closing quotation mark." (MOS:INOROUT)
  • "more than [two billion copies]" rather than "over [two billion copies]"
