Japan - Family names

[edit]

You added some great, enlightening information on family names in Japan on the article Family name. As you may know, the Wikipedia motto is "[[Be bold"...so, you should feel free to edit the text taking the fact into account as best as you see fit...that is every Wikipedian's right...and the truth will out, in the end! --Dpr 04:03, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Japanese Grammar Page Illustration

[edit]

I've created a new version of the 「日本語文法」image file used on the article page. I don't claim it is a great improvement on what is there now, only that it is more legible. Comments/suggestions/alternatives welcome.

Since no one commented against the change, I've just replaced the image. RJCraig 20:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

The paper i wrote last year was based on the idea that selective pressures (such as infectious disease) no longer express themselves significantly amongst humans. Here's an extract:

"...With Social Darwinism ruled out, what will the human race evolve to become under the natural influence of evolution?
Sadly, that is something that I believe we can never learn. Why, you ask? Because humans no longer fit the fifth of the six criteria that Darwin laid down as the basic fundamentals of evolution; that 'those members of the population with maladaptive traits (as determined by the environment) will die out or reproduce less' is simply not allowed to occur in our society. It is impossible to pinpoint the exact point time this happened, common logic would suggest that this effect gradually disappeared as better care and effective medicines appeared.
As I said earlier, natural selection can also be referred to as survival of the fittest. The fittest, or most survive-capable humans are still surviving, but for the first time in history, they are surviving alongside the survive-incapable. It is a fact that instead of survival of the fittest, we have all subconsciously opted for survival of everyone. Which, at a first glace seems like a much better idea. But now that selective pressure has been lifted from the human race, what is to become of us?..."

I then go on to talk about radiative evolution, and how most humans are likely to become genetically crippled. All friendly stuff of course, and obviously just speculation. Useful? mastodon 15:53, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

English passive voice

[edit]

Hi! Just as you saw, I started the article but the text was brought in from Grammatical voice. IIRC the text there was completely focused in English. As part of the Countering systemic bias WikiProject, I moved the English-specific text to its own article and left the original with more abstract and general information. --Pablo D.
