- ^ Qatar (QAT): Umm Salal qualified for the AFC Cup in the vacated 2016 Emir of Qatar Cup was won by Lekhwiya, who qualfied for the 2017–18 AFC Champions League by winning the 2016–17 Qatar Stars League.
- ^ Saudi Arabia: Fourth place finishers of the 2016–17 Saudi Professional League, Ittihad, were barred from Asian competitions for being in bad financial standing with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. Fifth-place finishers, Al-Raed qualified for the place instead.
- ^ Singapore 1 (SIN 1): The 2016 Singapore Cup is open to teams outside of Singapore, meaning the if a non-Singaporean club wins the competition, the highest finishing Singaporean club wins the cup berth for Singapore. The cup winner, Albirex Niigata Singapore is ineligible due to being a satellite team of Albirex Niigata, a Japanese club. Runners-up, Tampines Rovers vacated their berth, due to qualifying for the 2017–18 AFC Champions League by being the highest finishing Singaporean club during the 2016 S.League. Balestier Khalsa finished in fourth place during the 2016 Singapore Cup, and by virtue of being the second highest finishing Singaporean team in the competition, earned an AFC Cup berth.

- ^ Syria (SYR): The 2016 Syrian Cup was won by Al-Wahda who qualified for the AFC Cup by finishing fourth in the league. Al-Jaish qualified as the fifth place finisher during the 2016–17 Syrian Premier League
