This is an essay.

It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints.

I have some rigorous criteria that I check before I support an RfA.

1. Candidate must be a human being.

I will not support bots, as this kind of thing should be at BRFA.

2. Candidate must know what they are doing.

A less-stringent version of WP:Competency is required.

3. Candidate must be able to assess consensus.

That's it. That's all. They don't need to have a reason for the tools. Just be able to use them.

Wikipedians are a smart bunch. They'll be fine.
