About me
I am a doctoral student at SLU, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Before coming to SLU, I studied molecular biology and biomedical sciences at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia.
Research area
My PhD project is about biofortification of cassava (Manihot esculanta crantz), a major staple crop in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) for improved provitamin A carotenoids. Cassava is well known for it's high dry matter content (a much desired trait); however, it is lacking in micro-nutrients, especially vitamin A. With the high incidence of vitamin A deficiency (mostly affectiing children) in SSA, the need to fortify common staple crops like cassava with provitamin A carotenoids is paramount. The aim of this project is to improve the provitamin A content of cassava while retaining its high dry matter content. I hope that this project help reduce the incidence of vitamin A deficiency in sub-Saharan Africa.
