How to choose and transfer an image from Flickr Creative Commons to Wikimedia Commons
[edit]- At Flickr Creative Commons, click the magnifying glass to go to Flickr advanced search. Click the drop-down, changing "Any license" to "Commercial user allowed" and search for a suitable image. Ensure the image you choose is labeled with the correct "Statement on image page" as shown at WP:FLICKR and is considered "OK" to appear in Wikimedia Commons.
- Note the URL of your chosen image has the format similar to "https://www.flickr.com/photos/987654321@N01/01234567890/in/photolist". Copy the number "01234567890" in this example, appearing between the slashes.
- At MediaWiki OAuth, click "Allow" at the window that opens, sign in to MediaWiki, then click the "Flickr2Commons" link.
- At the Flickr-to-Commons tool that opens, paste in the number that you copied in Step 2 into the third text box labeled "OR single Flickr photo ID". At "Max pictures", enter "1". Click Run.
- The page has refreshed. Scroll down and ensure the image you chose appears on the page.
- No information is important to be entered on this page. If desired, decide on a Wikipedia category for the image. Click "Add category" and enter the category.
- The text appearing in the text box to the right of the preview image will be the title of the image in Wikimedia Commons. The licensing appearing to the right of the preview image will be its license. Click "Transfer the selected files to Commons".
- After a moment, the background color of the page around the preview image will change to green, indicating the image was successfully transferred to Wikimedia Commons. At the bottom of this page will be the words "Now at" followed by a link to the transferred image. Click the link.
- The image and its new file description page now exists in Wikimedia Commons.
