Hello There! Long time reader, first time contributor. I am a Marketing Assistant with Powermat.
Why am I here? Here’s the deal: Powermat engineers are leaders in some of the world’s cutting edge technologies, and I thought that we could go a long way towards improving Wikipedia’s articles on Wireless Technology and Telecommunication, and even some more nerdy ones in Physics and Engineering. We’ve already found a few stubs and articles where our research team can lend a hand. What I want to do is simply link our engineers up with Wikipedia so that we can share our knowledge, and Wikipedia can benefit from our knowledge.
What do I do at Powermat? I look after, coordinate and manage many aspects of Powermat, including marketing, sales and product development materials. Naturally, this means that there are many articles on Wikipedia where I can add my own insight to clarify things. Then there’s the hard science, where I can reach out to my team of Powermat engineers to provide insight. Obviously, I will cite our sources for every statement I make, and I promise not to provide any blatantly slanted promotional statements…even though Powermat products are truly awesome.
Wait, so sometimes you’ll be writing your own knowledge, and sometimes you’ll be writing somebody elses? Yes. I thought this would keep things more organized. That way, if you don’t like something I post, than you only need to come to me. Nobody else at Powermat will be talking on your Powermat discussion boards. Just me. I’ll have my team’s knowledge in hand, though, and they’re never more than a phone call or email away to clarify things.
What is my motive? Look, Wikipedia has some really smart people contributing to it, and Powermat has some really smart people who are not contributing to Wikipedia. I thought it might be nice to “square the circle” on this and bring our expertise to the rest of the world. Obviously, I would hardly complain if we get some great new leads or recruits out of Wikipedia, but it’s not the main objective. If smart people on Wikipedia start reaching out to Powermatassistant for input, then I’ll consider my work successful. It’s about Thought Leadership. I think we have a great deal of knowledge to share, and I want us to be recognized when we share it.
