Our People Versus Yours Our People Versus Yours, are five-piece Metal / Post-Hardcore band from various parts of Essex, inspired by a wide variety of bands such as Underoath, Norma Jean, Thrice and Architects. They formed early in 2008 and proceeded to record their first ever single entitled “Here Comes the Flood” which quickly established the band and allowed them to play a large string of shows up and down the country. Under pressure to capitalise on our success, they headed back to escape route productions to finish the debut EP. They called it “Here Comes the Flood” due to the popularity of the single. Having no real outlet to sell their music they offered the whole 6 track EP up for free download. This helped expand their fan base due to the accessibility of the Internet, which led to exposure in other countries as well as the UK. They released the EP on iTunes at the end of 2009, a year and a half after the EP had been widely available for free, and it is still selling well, a testament to how much of an impact their first ever song had.
By the end of 2008 they began to take on a more mature sound, which led them to finding a new vocalist to incorporate more melodic and clean vocals. After a short break and some intense writing they were back again in 2009 recording their first release since the debut EP. “Hope and Faith” was the first song recorded that year at Stakeout Studios (who have recorded the likes of Fightstar, You Me At 6, The Ghost of a Thousand etc). This song again proved to be very popular and allowed them to bring our explosive live show to some awesome venues supporting bands such as; Young Guns, Architects, Four Year Strong and many more.
They then finished recording their second EP “Southern Colours” which was released early in 2010. They felt it was a much better indication of their ambitions as a band, but again ventured to stakeout to record a two track digital only mini EP under the moniker “Time To Rise” in the same year. This was released to further refine their sound and show that they could incorporate more technical elements. After taking some time off for writing and touring with The Ocean Between Us (A Wolf At Your Door Records), they returned to the studio once again to record a brand new 4 track EP entitled “Lights” recorded with Dan Lancaster at Glass Eye Studios. With this EP they set out to do things differently to most other bands out there today. They avoided the highly polished, overly produced route that many bands seem to be taking and took a more honest, raw and energetic approach to their song writing. This resulted in an EP that manages to be heavy without resorting to constant breakdowns, is memorable without having to rely on gimmicks and eclectic whilst still sounding somewhat unique and maintaining the vision that the band initially set out to achieve. In a recent interview with 'Hevypetal' They were quoted as saying "We truly believe this is our best work to date and that we have finally found “the sound” we’ve been searching for. Our line up is also the strongest, most technically proficient and talented it’s ever been".
After initially releasing a limited run of 175 copies of the EP (which they sold out of in 1 week) They managed to secure more dates up and down the country with bands such as; 50 Lions, Liferuiner, Texas in July and were invited to play the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage at the Hevy Music Festival in Kent. On the run up to this show they were played several times on Kerrang! Radio where Alex Baker, the host, claimed the first time he heard them he “wowed.” They then proceeded to release their first ever video for the song “Ariha” with Daniel Broadley, on the 1st of August.
