Paul Raymonde is an English artist specialising in Mural and Trompe L'oeil. He was born in London in 1955. He started his artistic career as a cartoonist and illustrator, following the example of his cartoonist father Roy Raymonde. For a period he contributed to Punch, Private Eye, Readers Digest and many other publications. In the late 1980's he moved to Italy where he was impressed by the abundance of renaissence fresco adorning churches and public buildings. In particular the wit and ingenuity of trompe l'oeil caught his imagination and he started creating his own decorations. Commercial and private comissions soon followed. In 1997 his Italianate style caught the eye of the Tate Gallery directors, who commissioned him to decorate the galleries for the Grand Tour Exhibition. In 2000 a painted hoarding around the Sofitel development in Pall Mall won Westminster Council's hording of the year award. In 2012 he moved to Barcelona where amongst other artistic endeavour he teaches watercolour painting. Studio Website: www.paulraymonde.com
