Globie has been the official mascot of the Harlem Globetrotters exhibition basketball team since 1993. The Globetrotters website states his birthday as April 22nd, recognised internationally as Earth Day.[1] He is a humanoid figure dressed in the team colors of red, white and blue, with a globe of the Earth as a head.
Variations
[edit]Big G, Little G, and Mini G are Globie's "posse" and fellow mascots for the Harlem Globetrotters.[1]
Career
[edit]Globie was nominated for the Mascot Hall of Fame's "Golden Silly String Award" in August 2008. His opponents in the professional division were Billy the Marlin (Florida Marlins), Hugo (New Orleans Hornets), Rocky the Mountain Lion (Denver Nuggets), and Slider (Cleveland Indians).[2] Inductee positions were ultimately awarded to Rocky and Slider.[3]
