Doyeon Lee of Billboard noted that the soundtrack "was well received by listeners of all ages for its remakes of popular 90s hits."[3]
Context
[edit]Hospital Playlist is a South Korean television series created by screenwriter Lee Woo-jung and director Shin Won-ho as the second installment of their Wise Life series. Its two seasons premiered on tvN in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The series primarily follows the lives of five doctors in their forties, Lee Ik-jun (Jo Jung-suk), Ahn Jeong-won (Yoo Yeon-seok), Kim Jun-wan (Jung Kyung-ho, Yang Seok-yeong (Kim Dae-myung), and Chae Song-hwa (Jeon Mi-do), working at the same hospital. They became friends and formed a band, named after Gongnyong Ridge, in medical school during the 1990s. Throughout the series, they hold numerous band practices performing songs they listened to during their youth.[4][5]
Production
[edit]Shin and Lee recruited music director Ma Joo-hee to create the soundtrack of both seasons of Hospital Playlist. They had previously collaborated on the soundtrack of the Reply 1994 (2013), Reply 1988 (2015–2016), and Prison Playbook (2017–2018). Ma started working on the soundtrack along with Shin at the end of 2019. For the soundtrack, Ma wanted to modernize the songs while keeping.[6]
