Bare minimum:

1. {{Short description}} ("species of plant" will suffice}}
2. {{Speciesbox}} (or other appropriate taxobox template) containing at a minimum:
   1. |image= (check Commons for an image, but include as a blank parameter even if no image is currently available)
   2. |genus=+|species= or |taxon=
   3. |authority=
   4. other taxobox parameters as applicable; I don't see a point to include blank parameters aside from image; if it has synonyms, status, etc., add the parameters and fill them in
3. Opening sentence that begins with the bolded italicized name of the species and includes the words "species" "plant", HIGHERTAXON RANK, HIGHERTAXON NAME. "Species" should be Wikilinked, probably also HIGHERTAXON NAME, maybe "plant". Can be phrased various ways, but "...is a species of plant in the family..." is probably most frequent.
4. A references section with {{Reflist}}
   1. Provide source(s). References section should not be empty when rendered
5. {{Taxonbar}} (and link Wikidata item to en.wiki article)
6. A taxonomic category; categories exist for many genera and almost all families. If a genus category doesn't exist, but you think one is warranted, create it (do not place articles in nonexistent categories)

Going beyond the bare minimum (not a plant, but Thalassodes immissaria is one of the best species stubs (or is it a start?) I've come across):

1. Synonyms; {{Species list}},{{Collapsible list}}
2. Other taxobox parameters; status, range map, etc.
3. More prose content
   1. English vernacular names (often put in opening sentence)
   2. Plant habit/growth form (could be put in opening sentence)
   3. Range. This is usually the second sentence in two-sentence organism stubs on Wikipedia
   4. Basic taxonomic history (describe taxobox |authority= in plain language); insect stubs on Wikipedia include this more than for articles on any other group of organisms, but also well represented in plant stubs. Wikipedia would like infobox data to be mentioned with a source in prose. Three sentence stubs (aside from Polbot?) often have this information.
   5. Habitat. Polbot articles have this. Pretty basic fact if it's on the level of wetland/upland
   6. Threats/conservation status. Polbot stubs include. Status in taxobox should have a reference (but Polbot didn't include). Plants lacking articles in 2021 mostly don't have conservation assessments.
4. Additional categories; described in year, named by, WGSPRD distribution;
