Fukutoku-Okanoba (福徳岡ノ場) is a submarine volcano that is part of the Volcano Islands in the Bonin Islands of Japan. It is located 5 kilometers northeast of the island of South Iwo Jima.
History
[edit]The earliest recorded eruption of Fukutoku-Okanoba in 1904 formed an ephemeral island named Shin-Iwo-jima (New Sulfur Island). Other ephemeral islands have also formed, the most recent of which forming in 1986. [1]
The most recent eruption of Fukutoku-Okanoba was in 2010 Eruption An underwater eruption occurred 5 km north-northwest of Iwo Jima Island on 3rd February. The eruption was observed by Japanese coast guard. Ash and steam was visible rising 100 m above the ocean surface. Yellow-green colour was visible on the ocean surface in December 2009.[2]
