Life and Career
[edit]He began his studies at age 5 on piano, and started the cello the next year with David Tonkonogui. His teachers include David Tonkonogui, Ray Davis, Toby Saks, Neal Cary, Lynn Harrell, Ronald Leonard at the Colburn School and Joel Krosnick at Juilliard. He made his orchestral debut at age 11 with the Seattle Symphony and his father Gerard Schwarz[1], and now performs regularly as soloist with orchestras in the U.S. and abroad.
Critical Praise
[edit]Julian Schwarz's performances have been well-received. He was described as "one of the finest cellists now before the public" [2] when he was still in his teens. Neal Cary said about him, "When Julian came for his first lesson with me in 2008, he started playing the Dvorak (cello concerto) for me, and I was blown away. He had such rich texture and expressiveness; it was the most gorgeous sound I've heard since Leonard Rose, and I knew right then that he had the potential for greatness."[3]. Julian has been on the cover of Teen Strings and GoTriad magazines.
