Background
Wong Fu Productions first began in 2003 on the campus of UC San Diego. Over the years Wong Fu has evolved from a group of college dormmates and friends to a few boys driven to succeed.
Wong Fu Productions is now a growing independent production company with thousands of hits to this website from all over the world each day. With a fanbase of millions across the US and globe, they work fulltime creating online content, designing for their t-shirt brand, and producing with other companies and artists. As emerging artists and filmmakers, they hope to continue to improve their craft, grow as a company, and reach people with their work.

Wesley Chan is from Millbrae, CA. Graduated from UCSD class of 2006 (Sixth College). Wesley majored in Visual Arts focusing on computing. Wesley joined Wong Fu Productions in Spring 2004 (March – June). He currently designs all t-shirts for the Nice Guy (nG) clothing line.
Ted Fu originally from South Africa. Graduated from UCSD class of 2006 (Eleanor Roosevelt). Ted majored in Visual Arts focusing on computing. Ted joined Wong Fu Productions in Fall 2004. He currently manages the Nice Guy (nG) store and updates the main website.
(2003 – 2004)
Wong Fu Productions formed in June 2003 with Philip Wang and a couple hallmates at UCSD. Then known as Ultra Cool Sexy Dudes (U.C.S.D.) they produced their first lip sync video to Justin Timberlake’s “Senorita”. Philip placed “Wong Fu Productions” on the credits. “Wong Fu” was a nickname given to Philip in middle school.
Through the distribution of Senorita online, Philip and the rest of his friends decided to produce more lip sync videos (Harlem Yu’s “Qing Fei De Yi”, Maroon 5’s “Sunday Morning”, Usher’s “Simple Things”, and Babyface’s “What If”). Venturing out to produce something rather than lip sync videos, the produced short films (shorts) (Cell Phone, Car Chase, Locked Out, The Luggage Man).
(2004 – 2006)
Philip met Wesley in Spring 2004 (March – June) and Ted in Fall 2004 (September – December). At a question and answer series, Philip said “We had this class and you had to make a video every week and present it in front of class and I remember seeing their stuff, sitting in the back thinking ‘Man these guys are really good, I should probably make friends with them or something’”. Wesley commented by saying “Me and Ted were in the back and saw Phil, we didn’t know him and we were like “It’s the lip sync guy”. Philip and Wesley’s first collaboration project was Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS). RPS was split into two parts in which Wesley edited the first half and Philip edited the second half. In December 2004, Wesley and Philip, along with childhood friend Allen Liu and classmate Naho Minato, entered a video contest for iFilm. Contest stipulation were that fans had to make a video to Yellowcard’s – Breathing (live) and the video had to submitted to Yellowcard’s website. Top 5 videos would be voted on by the band. Wong Fu’s version came in number 1 in the votes but they did not receive the grand prize.
In January 2006, they released their most popular video “Yellow Fever”. With the growing popularity of Google Video and YouTube, Yellow Fever has been seen by over one million people all over the world. After graduating from UCSD in June 2006, the trio moved to Alhambra to continuing working Wong Fu Productions as a full time job.
(A Moment With You)
During their final year in college, Wes, Ted, and Philip decided they wanted to challenge themselves. After making so many shorts and music videos, they thought the next step would be to try and make a full length movie. What began as a simple idea ended up becoming the most ambitious and difficult project they've undertaken to date. Consuming their lives for eight months from October 2005 and finally finishing in June 2006, "A Moment with You" is their first movie.
The trio decided to work on their first full length film in October 2005. Philip stated in the official blog “Wong Fu is a risk, but personally, it was one I was willing to take at the time, and I told myself, if I’m going to do this, then yes…I want to make one more movie before I decide to “give up”. That whole idea of, “going out with a bang.”” The working title for the movie was JMY. The first screening was June 3, 2006 at UCSD. From September 2006 to June 2007, Wong Fu toured 32 schools in North America and Canada. The final screening occurred in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles with the release of “A Moment With You” on DVD. A series of 20 episodes documented the A Moment With Tour with the trio in North America and Philip and Wesley in Canada. Over the course of the tour, through the screening and selling of promotional items, “A Moment With You” grossed $50,000. The profit gained was invested back into the company so they could produce more short films.
(2007 – Present)
In February 2007 Wong Fu Productions released “Give And Take” featuring Spencer the bear. Spencer was found at a Goodwill when the trio moved to Alhambra, CA. In April 2007 Wong Fu released their number one video “Yellow Fever” on DVD. Ending the US part of their North American “A Moment With You” Tour, a tour diary was released via YouTube. The “A Moment With You” Tour ended in June and they were allowed to produce a DVD version and sell it to their fans. In May 2007, the trio released “Just A Nice Guy” via a YouTube. “Just A Nice Guy” was the first mini series that they produced which led into another opening in which they could connect with their fans. Wesley designed the t-shirts in the short that Philip wore. After the short was released online, fans were asking if the shirts would be sold in the Wong Fu store. From then new shirts are released every six months in their store. In the Fall Wong Fu did a collaboration project with Far*East Movement (FM) to make a short mini series for their hit single “You’ve Got A Friend”. This started as one of many collaboration projects that Wong Fu and Far*East Movement will work on.
In the summer of 2007, Wesley Chan released short films that he produced while on vacation in Hong Kong. The films were released under the title “The One Days: HK”. One short from the series “The Spare” along with Wesley’s other short “At Musings End” were official selections for the Cannes International Festival. Closing off 2007, Wong Fu decided to take a different approach to branching out to their fans. Like many new media sensations, the trio decided to post video blogs and upload them into their YouTube channel.
International Secret Agents
International Secret Agents (ISA) is concert events company that seeks to showcase the brightest and most premier talent among Asian and Asian Americans. What started off as a simple idea to uplift the community has now grown into a thriving and popular brand that hundreds of thousands of young people now recognize. Created by the artists themselves, ISA is the passion project of Wong Fu Productions and Far*East Movement, now set on taking their grassroots and personal connection to their fans to greater and inspiring heights.
History
The idea of the International Secret Agents concert started very simply. Wong Fu and Far*East Movement had been working on some projects together, and the guys at Wong Fu asked Far*East Movement if they'd be interested in performing at one of their next screenings. Far*East Movement took this idea and suggested that they make it an event not just for their two groups, but to open it up to other talented Asian-American artists who are fighting their way into the mainstream. Since there is so little representation for APAs in the media, the only option is for the artists themselves to host their own show, and this is exactly what Wong Fu and Far*East Movement did.
