One beautiful day on one beautiful waterfall trail, we hiked as a family through the woods. The trail began in the woods by a parking lot, one might not believe that it is a waterfall trail at first. If you closed your eyes and listened closely, you could hear a faint rumble of the waterfalls just beyond the trees. We started the trail together. Everyone was excited, for good reason. The nature was green and bountiful, the air was crisp and fulfilling, and each of our steps echoed into the trees.
As we walked further on, we began slowly separating. The young were quick and filled with energy while the parents and grandparents were trotting along calmly. After several minutes passes we passed into an opening where we could suddenly see the river flowing beside us. The smooth and relaxing sound of the water near us calmed our quickening spirits. The distant sound of the roar at the bottom of the falls filled our bellies with excitement.
Without thinking, I started to jog alongside the winding, steep, and treacherous mountainside path. Soon I found myself unable to slow, and definitely unable to stop. I was near full sprint going down this path. It was all I could do not to trip and tumble no doubt leading to me falling off the edge of a very steep cliff. I barreled down the path toward a sharp turn and in front of me appeared a giant boulder nearly as tall as I was. I plowed into the boulder trying with all my might to stop my momentum. I used every inch of my body to decelerate. After coming to a painful stop thanks to the boulder, I patted the boulder on what I believed to be its head while I thanked it for saving me. Then I came to one conclusion. I'm walking.
