[edit]I'm a college student living in the Pacific Northwest. My hobbies include reading, painting, and photography. I'm an avid reader who enjoys almost any genre. Though, I mainly read historical fiction, fantasy, and literary fiction. [1]Spending a short amount of time reading each day can help reduce stress levels. I paint, I mainly use watercolors and oil-based paints. Other things about me: I enjoy spending time outside, I have a dog, and I spend a lot of my spare time studying various religions.
My Wikipedia Interests
[edit]If I'm active on Wikipedia in the future, I'll probably be focusing on literature, photography, or religion. I hope to help edit and possibly contribute my own research to Wikipedia articles. I also hope to use Wikipedia in the future more heavily for my studies as a college student.
Article evaluation
[edit]I’ve been interested in diverse young adult fiction for a while. One of my favorite authors of this genre being Mackenzi Lee. Since I’ve enjoyed a majority of this author’s works, I would like her Wikipedia page to be as good as possible. So, I visited the Mackenzi Lee article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: its lack of citations, its missing information, and its out of date/lack of information.
Citations
[edit]There are few citations on this page, but not enough. Another issue is two of the few citations don’t actually lead to the article there supposed to. The first citation to an interview Mackenzi Lee did with the American Booksellers Association no longer works. After a quick google search, I was able to find the correct link to the article. The third citation to Mackenzi Lee’s “about page” on her website is out of date. Both of these citation issues should be an easy fix to simply add in the right link.
Missing Information
[edit]The biggest issue this article faces is the information it’s missing. For example, the article doesn’t include any of the many short story anthologies that Mackenzi Lee has contributed to. This information is very easy to find and add to the article. Mackenzi Lee has contributed to All Out: The No-Longer-Secret Stories of Queer Teens throughout the Ages edited by Saundra Mitchell, From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back edited by Elizabeth Schaefer, You Too?: 25 Voices Share Their #MeToo Stories edited by Janet Gurtler, and Fear edited by Christa Seeley. This article also doesn’t include the release dates for Mackenzi Lee’s new releases. Once again this is very easy information to find and add into the article. For example, with The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks, the expected publication date is November 16th, 2021.
Out of Date/Lack of Information
[edit]This article also includes very little information on Mackenzi Lee’s later releases. The main focus of this article is on The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue, This Monstrous Thing, and Bygone Badass Broads. Mackenzi Lee has published many other books that could be easily discussed in detail in this article. Information on these books is easily accessible on Mackenzi Lee’s website. The lack of information on her latest releases makes this article seem out of date.
Summary
[edit]Overall, I’d rate this article as “somewhat helpful”. There is a good base of information, but the lack of useable citations makes it hard for the reader to easily check the information provided. The missing information makes it hard for readers to fully understand the full scope of Mackenzi Lee’s works. Finally, the out-of-date/lack of information makes this article very short and outdated.
