Annie Lois Fuqua Smith (November 18, 1930 - July 30, 2019) first of 12 children born to the late Ira and Hazel (Cook) Fuqua. Born in Treutlen County, Soperton, Georgia. Siblings:Richard, Gloria, Iradell, Willie, Henry, Gene, Charles, Mary, Marian, Patricia (James Nelson died at birth).

Lois received her basic education in the Love (Quarters) Industrial and Treutlen County Training School systems. After graduating from high school, she attended Paine College located in Augusta, Georgia, receiving a B.S. degree in English and later attended Tuskegee Institute (University) and received a Masters degree in Elementary Education.

Lois and Caesar J. Smith were joined in Holy matrimony on June 4, 1955 (Son, Daryl Von Smith Wife: Cashunda, Children: Daryl Joshua, Lyric, and Shanell).

Lois' first teaching assignment was in Irvington, Georgia where she taught primary grades for 16 months. She then joined the teaching staff in Treutlen County, Soperton, Georgia in 1953 and continued to teach until her retirement in 1989. She retired after teaching for 35 years.

Church and Civic Service was her life-long passion and she enjoyed being a den mother for cub scouts (along with Mrs. Blanche Hunter). She served as chairperson of the March of Dimes and the Cancer Society and she was elated to serve as the first African American female on Treutlen County's Board of Commissions.
