Bankuet is a British social impact company that solicits donations to food banks and food distribution schemes across the UK, and provides these organisations with an ordering interface to purchase goods using donated funds. It was founded in December 2019 by the entrepreneur Robin Ferris. The scheme was set up in response to increasing levels of food poverty across the UK, and was trialled in partnership with Wandsworth Food Bank in 2019.
Allocation and Ordering System
[edit]Donations to Bankuet may be made either to a specific partnered food bank, or general donations, which will be distributed to food banks most in need of support. These funds may then be used by partner organisations as a 'budget' for ordering supplies.
Bankuet's ordering system allows partner organisations to prioritise the goods that they need the most, to prevent oversupply of specific items, an issue commonly cited by food banks that receive direct donations of food from the community. The system allows the purchase of ambient goods such as rice, canned foods, toiletries, and UHT milk. Depending on the selections made, Bankuet then creates an order based on the selected priorities and the amount of funds from the donation pool allocated to that order by the partner organisation. Currently, Bankuet do not supply fresh food to partner organisations, with the stated aim of reducing waste.
