Camp Wannaweep first appeared as an episode location in episode 2 [1] and was referenced several times through flashbacks during season 1 [2]. It was used as an episode location for the second time midway through season 2. [3]

In addition to being a recurring location, the Camp forms part of Ron Stoppable's back-story. In total, he has visited it three times in his life. Once as an unwilling pre-teen camper, and twice as an unwitting teenager. He believes the camp to be cursed, and out to get him. [3]

Camp Wannaweep

[edit]

Wannaweep is a sleepaway camp situated on the shores of Lake Wannaweep, which it shares with a Science Camp, a Band Camp and a Clown Camp. There is also a Telecommunications Camp close by. Though the latter was referenced through dialog only and may or may not also front onto the lake. [1]

The camp was attended by a young Ron Stoppable some years prior to the start of season 1. He found the experience to be somewhat traumatic, and credited it as being the source several of his fears and phobias. Most notably, his fear of Monkeys - Which Ron stated stem from a bad experience with Wannaweep's simian mascot. [2][1]

As a camper, Ron was assigned to Cabin 13. He hid a variety of long life snack products beneath the floorboards, and prepared an escape tunnel that lead to the Arts and Crafts hut. He also has an intimate knowledge of the whereabouts of the camp's pay phones, which he frequently used to call home on. [1]

Among the traumas reportedly suffered by young Ron at camp Wannaweep were:

  • Being bullied by other campers
  • A bug infested cabin
  • A bad case of poison oak
  • An attack by large forest squirrel
  • A variety of unpleasant encounters with the camp's mascot
  • A partially described incident involving woodpeckers and a hollow tree in which he was hiding

Lake Wannaweep

When first introduced as a location during season 1, Wannaweep was in a state of considerable disrepair, and was presented as being a typical horror-movie-cliche "abandoned summer camp". A fact noted by cheerleader Tara; who described their being there as being reminiscent of a scene from a teen slasher feature. [1]. According to the villain Gill, the camp was abandoned, having been closed sometime prior to episode 2, after its lake Wannaweep was found to have been polluted by runoff from the Science Camp. The presence of clean bedding material (neatly made up bunks in its cabins) suggests that this closure may have been a recent, or sudden, event. [1]

The camp first served as a location early in season 1, when mutant man-fish creature Gill lured the Middleton Cheer squad to the camp with an invitation to a non-existent cheer leading competition, as part of an plot to get revenge on Ron Stoppable. After Gill sabotaged their bus outside its gates, the squad was forced to spend the night at Wannaweep.[1] The camp next served as a location during season 2, when the Middleton cheer squad was again invited to a cheer leading event, this time at Camp Gottagrin. However, while the invitation prove to be real this time, the camp also prove to be very familiar, and to be the location of a second plot against Ron.

During both incidents, Ron was traveling with the cheer squad in the role of the school Mascot:The Middleton Mad Dog. [3]

Return To Camp Wannaweep

At some point between Sink or Swim and Return to Camp Wannaweep, the camp underwent extensive renovation work; including the decontamination of the lake and the updating of facilities.

After renovations were complete, Camp Wannaweep reopened under the new name Camp Gottagrin. It was at the renamed camp that the second cheerleader event was held. [3]

Trivia

[edit]
  • Based on production order, Wannaweep is introduced as a concept through dialog and flashback prior to its use as a location. Based on air date and episode number, it is introduced as a location and a concept at the same time, and then used to reinforce back story for Ron Stoppable
