Mark Gillies Hanna (born in 1974 in Mendham, New Jersey) is an American historian of colonial America and the British Empire. He is currently an associate professor at the University of California in San Diego. He is author of Pirate Nests and the Rise of the British Empire, 1570-1740 (University of North Carolina Press for the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture) that received the 2016 Frederick Jackson Turner Award for best first book on American history.
