Steve Free was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on September 16, 1950 and is of part Shawnee heritage. He is a national and international known recording artist whose brand of music has labeled him the “Appalachian Jimmy Buffet, additionally [1].
The songs he writes has the power to inspire and move those from children to adult. Many of the songs invoke images common to the beauty of the Tri-state region of Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky, such as its rivers, forests and mountains. He and his band are a popular draw throughout the area performing at diverse locations such as Camden Park to smaller venues such as Moyer’s winery and the Ye Olde Lantern in Portsmouth, Ohio.
In 2008 he was awarded The State of Ohio’s Governor’s Award as “Individual Artist.
