Vivien l'Abbé de Bulonde, (French pronunciation: [viviɑ̃ labe də bylɔ̃də], 1637 – 1709) was a French military commander and Lieutenant-General under Louis XIV.
Early life
[edit]Vivien l'Abbé was born around 1637 in Fontaine-le-Dun, which included his family's estate of Bulonde, the name he would later adopt officially. His father, Pierre l'Abbé, equerry, seigneur de la Fontaine, was Counselor and Butler to the King and Capitaine de cavalerie; his mother was Geneviève de Tourneroche.[1]
Career
[edit]Bulonde must have joined the army at a young age, and was promoted rapidly without favour, reaching the rank of Lieutenant-général des armées after 24 years of continuous service.[1]
In 1665,[2] he served under Marshall Schomberg in Portugal,[3] where he commanded a cavalry regiment which he brought back to France.[2]
