Alexis Ziegler (born 23. November 1966, Georgia) is an American political activist, author, orchardist and community founder, who now lives at the Living Energy Farm (LEF) in central Virginia.

Biography

Zeigler grew up on a farm in rural Georgia - school ?


At age 18 he joined Twin Oaks Community in Louisa, VA. He left with a number of other communards to start a new community in Floyd county VA. In 1999 he founded Woodfolk Community in Charlottesville, VA which had a mandate to accommodate members who were neuro atypical

Zeigler was instrumental in establishing bike lanes on the city streets of Charlottesville. In 2006 he co-founded the non-profit Trade Local group which was supporting local economy and opposed to globalization and corporate rule.

Zeigler has written three full length books at many articles. The books include:

  • Integrated Activism: Applying the Hidden Connections between Ecology, Economics, Politics, and Social Progress, North Atlantic Books 2013

Intentional Community Work

Ziegler has for many years been involved in construction projects at Twin Oaks community, even after he was no longer a member there. In 2011, with his partner Debbie and some other Twin Oakers he founded the Living Energy Farm project and community. This new intentional egalitarian community is an effort to be prepared for a post petroleum era that Ziegler and other members feel society needs to be preparing for. The economic base of LEF is agricultural, grow fruits and vegetables well beyond the needs of the membership of the community.

Zeigler is partnered with Debbie Morningstar, who is a member of Twin Oaks Community. They have a daughter Rosa Harmonica who was born Nov 21st 2011.
