About You!
[edit]I've been reading articles for a long time and then became interested in them when I found out about the discussion page. I first tried my hand at editing on Jan 1 of 2009 and so I've been around for 2 weeks now. I've created a few articles, mostly in the area of medicine and neurology. I really have a strong interest in neurology, radiology and some basic anatomy. Basket of Puppies 16:47, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

- I live in New England in America. It's really beautiful here and I love the historic nature of it all. My interest in neurology comes from a neurological condition that I have which has left my mostly disabled. I can walk and move but not for more than an hour at a time. Thus I find this wikipedia to be a great use of my time. It's not very often one can help create a huge database of knowledge in their spare time. Basket of Puppies 17:04, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

- Those are beautiful dogs! I love dogs but sadly where I live we are not allowed to have anyone. I am hoping to move out soon and into a place where I can have a gaggle of puppies! Basket of Puppies 04:26, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
What can you do already
[edit]I have been using the random article button in order to find articles that have lacked references. I then google and search for appropriate references and add them. I've also created a few small articles on the topics of radiology and neurology. I plan on expanding these articles significantly. I have done some minor copyediting and also tried my hand at new page patrol, having CSDed a few pages which were obvious spam. Basket of Puppies 16:51, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

If you are unsure of any what any of these are, leave a note here or on my talk page and I'll explain further.
- OK, shall we start with Articles for deletion? Have a look at AFD or specifically Articles for deletion/Log/2009 January 16 for all the deletion discussions today (Friday 16th Jan). There's a guide at AfD which explains what to do, but basically, try to find something which interests you and assess that nomination. It may be an obvious discussion - an article which serves no purpose or could merged with another etc. Make a decision, and place a bold delete or keep at the bottom of the list. In order to see other comments and therefore help you to see how these things operate, it's probably best not to be the first to vote on a discussion until you are more experienced. Sometimes it may be practical to instead opt for merge with... if necessary. Always add a reason - saying per nom. (per nominator) is very often not viewed as worth consideration. At the end, an admin will review the AfD and make a decision on whether to delete or not.
- I'm sure the guide at AfD explains this a lot better than I do so I suggest that you have a look at that as well!
With regard to vandalism fighting, patrolling the Special:RecentChanges is a good way to see what is happening and you may like to take on Wikipedia:Twinkle to help you with combating vandalism. - I have looked through the above and even tried my hand at Twinkle a few times. I found the AfD information to be enlightening and reviewed several active AfDs. I didn't yet comment- I'll do that in a bit once I get some more in depth knowledge of the process and requirements. This really is very interesting. What's the next part? - Glad to see that you are finding it interesting, I would suggest that you now continue to get used to Wikipedia:Twinkle using it carefully to perhaps revert the worst cases of vandalism, continue to look at AfDs and start to contribute there when you feel ready to do so. I'll monitor what you are doing - don't forget to ask questions about anything at all and I'll try to answer. If I don't know the answer I'll find out from someone else! However I will need your assistance to ensure we are not violating WP:OR. Other than that I am going to try to spend a few minutes ago combating vandalism and new page patrolling. Is this because you are unsure of what to do/procedures/policies etc or are you just too busy? :-) If you're just too busy or not keen to be very active that's fine but if there is anything I can do please let me know. - Howdy, Paste! All is going well. I haven't been completely active, tho your assistance has been huge! Last night I reported my first vandal and they were blocked! I am glad that I was able to identify and report such things. I did use the Twinkle tool which made it very simple. I am also in school so I am rather occupied in this regard. - Hi, that's good, I'll keep an eye out for your contributions. I have had a look this morning and it's worth keeping an eye on what happens after, for example, you tag an article for a speedy delete.
