Introduction

[edit]

Hi there, I've setup this page just for us to talk on. I will always be here to answer any questions you have, and I will be watching your edits to see how you are doing and make appropriate suggestions. The first thing you need to read is Wikipedia:Five pillars, and please skim through the first two points-(Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia and Wikipedia has a neutral point of view). Next, feel free to start editing, whatever page you wish whether its fixing spelling, or contributing information, or reverting vandalism, and don't worry you can't do permanant damage :p. Okay, I have a question. Is it okay to contribute to articles you know nothing about? Also, what kind of sources are and are not allowed to be given as proof? --AlliterateAspirant (talk) 15:26, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes you definitely can edit any article without any knowledge about the article, I often fix spelling, grammar, tone, remove vandalism and advertisements from articles I know nothing about. Though if you were to start adding information to an article and you had no clue whether it was true or not and you had no source, than that of course is not good. For what sources you should be using see:WP:RS-generally any respected website can be sourced from-say the BBC/CNN/Reuters, any peer-reviewed science articles, text books. What is not acceptable is using blogs, any social website(facebook/myspace) or personally owned websites, as a source. Also you cannot source a companies own website when writing about that company if it seems to really boast its self, e.g., if Coca-Cola's website said "it produces the worlds best pop and it's also the world most ethical company", you can't source them for such large claims. Oh, and watch out for sourcing from websites that source wikipedia, circular sourcing is also a no-no. Passionless -Talk 21:38, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
