Fourth of July fireworks are inappropriate while our young men and women are being placed in body bags and wheelchairs.
It is the nature of the paranoid be unable to assess any kind of evidence.
Self-doubt is the first step towards compassion.
Paranoia is another name for the human condition.
Look back at the recent history of the United States with a focus on perceived enemies. You will find similar instances of racial stereotyping, which invariably lead to similar instances of extreme mistreatment. Starting with the Native American, we have a long and ugly relationship with whatever we deem hostile to our interests. While hindsight may always be 20/20, it may also be a given that whichever enemy we may be mistreating at the present time, the future will always prove us sorely mistaken in whichever assessment led us to the belief that this was the correct course to follow. In other words, whenever we thrash on the weak -- for whatever reason -- we ultimately look back and see foolish, paranoid, overreacting barbarians. We will always regret doing what we know to be wrong. Right now is one of those times -- we are seriously, mortally misbehaving, and will soon look at ourselves as irrational fools with a sickening blood lust and a hard-to-fathom death wish. Eisenhower was right: our military, even in times of peace, should be kept on a fucking short leash, and not allowed to roam un-chaperoned at any time.
My 2 cents.
I may be wrong.
(But I'm not.)
