Registered 12 November 2009. I have edited a few articles in previous years and after reading of decreased participation in Wikipedia I began to consider becoming a registered user.
For the moment I am interested in things nautical, particularly certain ship history. After retirement from mapping and charting, purely nautical for two decades before becoming involved in the entire mapping and charting world, I began researching ships in that line of work. That led to particular interest and research into the Army ships of WW II as several of the ships I knew very well had originally been Army cable ships. I have a fair library of references and will attempt to add detail and citations.
Secondary interest here, after five cumulative years underway at sea surveying in most of the northern hemisphere oceans, is in the history of marine navigation and charting, particularly deep ocean bathymetric surveys and some of the electronic navigation systems supporting the early work in that area.
