Los Crudos was an influential[1][2] Chicago-based Latino hardcore band.[3] They paved the way for later Spanish-language punk bands[1] and have been described as "one of '90s punk's truly great bands."[4]

The band formed in the early 1990s.[3] Their lyrics were almost always sung in Spanish; the song "We're That Spic Band" (written in response to an audience member calling them a "spic band"[5]) is the sole exception.[1] While they often performed in front of White, English-speaking audiences,[4] their first shows were in Pilsen,[3] the Latino neighborhood in Chicago where the band members lived, and many of their lyrics were first sung there.[5] Singer Martin Sorrondeguy has said that, "For us, singing in Spanish was to really be direct with who we were talking to, and if it meant communicating with young people or people in our communities, well, what better language than the one we were all originally raised with."[5] Los Crudos's lyrics were explicitly political,[4] addressing issues like class, police brutality, and identity.[1] At concerts, Sorrodeguy would often speak at length about the songs' meanings between songs.[4] Their music was loud and fast,[4] with songs built around three chords or less.[1]

Los Crudos incorporated DIY ethics into every aspect of the band's existence, including promoting and booking shows, recording music, touring, and silk-screening T-shirts.[1] They toured Mexico, South America, Europe, and Japan, as well as touring the US many times.[4] The band's recordings were released on independent record labels such as Flat Earth Records, Ebullition Records, and lead singer Martin Sorrondeguy's label Lengua Armada Discos.

Los Crudos played its last shows in October 1998.[4] After the band's breakup, Sorrondeguy became the vocalist for Limp Wrist, as well as releasing a documentary about Chicano and Latino punk[5] (Beyond The Screams: A U.S. Latino Hardcore Punk Documentary). He has also been in the bands Harto and Tragatelo. Guitarist Jose now plays in the Chicago punk band I Attack.

The band played an unannounced reunion show in June 2006 at Southkore (America's first and largest[1] Latino punk festival), in Chicago's Little Village.[2] The festival attracted more than 400 fans.[2]
