FIRST FOUR AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES OF ENUGU-EZIKE

[edit]

History

[edit]

Sharing common boundaries with Kogi and Benue states, Enugu Ezike is referred to as the largest community in Enugu State. This can be proven by the fact that it is the only town that made up a local government area.[1] [2]it obtained its name from a man called Ezike Oba who settled on top of the mountain to establish a place now known as Enugu Ezike meaning Ezike Oba's Mountain top.[3]

The initial autonomous communities

[edit]

Enugu Ezike is generally headed by an Onyishi who is the eldest man, a good example of gerontocracy.[1] [4] This seat does not require contest.[1] The four sons of Ezike Oba formed the first four autonomous communities of Enugu Ezike.[1] They are according to seniority;

  1. Ezzodo
  2. Essodo
  3. Itodo
  4. Ozzi
