Ocean Village Marina in Gibraltar is a mixed usage real estate development situated in Gibraltar. It comprises waterfront restaurants, entertainment venues, retail units, office space and residential plazas up to 17 storeys high with access to seven swimming pools and a health club/gym. At the centre of the project is the marina.
The 323 berths that now comprise the marina were formed from the development of the former Marina Bay berths and former Sheppards boatyard. Construction work begun in 2003 and the next phase was completed in 2008.
Grand Ocean Plaza and Majestic Ocean Plaza were officially opened by the Chief Minister of Gibraltar on Friday 12th February 2010.[1] These towers surround the marina and the three residential plazas, between 15 and 17 levels high, and can clearly be seen from the other side of the Bay of Algeciras. They are named Grand Ocean Plaza, Majestic Ocean Plaza and Royal Ocean Plaza.
The marina is owned and managed by Fairhomes Gibraltar, whose Chairman is Greg Butcher.
After the initial construction of the floating pontoons and apartments in 2007 the next phase of the project involved reclaiming land from the sea to create Heart Island, a business and leisure complex overlooking the marina[2]. Now known as Leisure Island it is home to a variety of financial businesses as well as a 30,000 sq ft Gala Casino (Gibraltar's only casino) which is open 24 hours a day.
Ocean Village Marina in Gibraltar has businesses based there which employ around 350 people mostly from the financial services, internet gaming and property management sectors.
In September 2010 it was announced that Ocean Village was to be the proposed site of a World Trade Centre in Gibraltar. The proposal has been accepted by the World Trade Centre Association and work will start on the 15,000 sqm office and conference complex in 2011 for completion in late 2012.[3]
