HappySlip (real name Christine Gambito) is an Internet celebrity and a popular YouTube user who joined the site on August 31, 2006 and soon managed to gather a big number of subscriptions. She has over 65,000 subscribers[1], which makes of her the 6th most subscribed YouTube user of all time[2] as of August 18, 2007, and her videos have been watched over 17 million times[3] on a cumulative count.
Her video Mixed Nuts was also nominated for the 2006 YouTube Video Awards for Best Comedy, resulting in the second place[4]. She is also an official partner in YouTube's revenue sharing program.
Her performances typically include comedy sketches in which she impersonates members of her family (her parents and aunt), sings and plays the piano or guitar. As she stated repeatedly in her videos, she is notably one of the very few top users acting, filming, editing and producing her shorts completely on her own[5].

Before YouTube

[edit]

Of Filipino origins, but born and raised in Virginia, she studied and graduated in nursing while obtaining several cameo appearances and small parts in television commercials and movies, industrial and training films, but, as she stated, They're all pale in comparison to doing my own thing with HappySlip. How much fun can you have when you're doing your own thing![1]

The nickname

[edit]

The origin of her nickname is explained in her personal site [1]:

While growing up, my mom was always quick to remind me to wear a half slip with my skirts. She would say “Your hap eslip!! Be sure to wear your hap eslip!!”. So I grew up thinking - the term was always “happy slip”, until I was corrected by classmates who asked me if I had a sad slip as well.

Further on, however, it is explained that the phrase is not only a funny phrase from the past, but it also reflects what she would like people to feel when they watch her videos, hoping they will “slip into happiness” while watching.
