Assistance for new page
Hey Oshwah, would like to start by saying thank you for all your contributions. I am looking to find assistance in starting my page. Thank you TwoTiime (talk) 00:02, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi TwoTiime, and thanks for the message! I highly recommend that you review Wikipedia's conflict of interest and no original research policies. In short, Wikipedia highly discourages its users from writing an article about themselves (an autobiography) or subjects where they have a personal conflict of interest with. One reason is because it's nearly impossible for the user to write the article to reflect a neutral point of view. If the subject is notable, another user will certainly write the article.
- Also, you cannot add content and "cite yourself" simply because you have a close relationship or experience with the article subject. Adding content citing one's relationship, experience, association, or even one's own website, work, or research constitutes original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. This is because it's impossible for other editors and readers to verify that content is accurate and true. It's as if I were to say, "I'm the President of the United States". Would you believe me? No! You'd want some kind of verification, source, or proof to show that what I'm saying is true. If you asked me for that information and I responded, "I'm citing myself as the proof" - you wouldn't just disbelieve my statement, you'd probably laugh and think that I'm crazy. I mean this with all due respect, but your edit and the "source" you provided in your message here is almost the same thing as the example I just talked about. There's no way for us to verify that the content is correct, and this is why original research is not allowed. According to Wikipeida's verifiability and No original research policies, all content on Wikipedia must be attributable to a reliable source, and specific information such as direct or spoken quotes, dates, data, information that's instantaneous, or other content likely to be challenged or removed - must be directly attributed to a reliable source via a citation.
- Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Thanks again for the message, and I wish you a great day and happy editing. Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:05, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for that; you beat me to the buttons.-- Ponyobons mots 18:03, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ponyo - Hey Ponyo! It's good to see you again! I hope you're doing well and that life is treating you nicely. You bet; I had just run into those edits after seeing the same user repeatedly causing my edit filter to flag hits. As always, it's a pleasure seeing you around, and please don't be a stranger here if you need help or just need someone to tag-team something with you. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:13, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
CU Block
Thank you for dealing with all those GarryHenderson6 block evasions. This is a bizarre case of someone who started contributing well, then it started showing that they have an extreme hate on for the cathedral in Canterbury, started edit warring to remove mentions and prominence of it (it's only the single most important building in Canterbury and the reason for the city's existence) and inserting that the city is a dump and other disruptive editing all within a final two day period. And then socking left right and centre. But thanks again. Canterbury Tail talk 18:42, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Canterbury Tail - No problem; always happy to do a little cleaning around here! ;-) It's a bizarre situation for sure; definitely not your typical good-hand, bad-hand editing (something that surprisingly occurs more often than I expected).
- Psychologically, nearly all good-hand bad-hand editors behave this way because their primary intent from the beginning is to disrupt and troll Wikipedia. They somehow believe that making good edits on the same or other accounts will "offset" what they're doing and make it harder for us to detect or quickly conclude their bad faith intentions. It's hard to say whether or not this user's primary intention was to vandalize or disrupt the project; if anything, they ran into an article subject and topic that happened to strike a huge nerve or emotional thorn, and what you saw was the result of their viewpoint or their anger toward the topic. That, in addition to good-hand bad-hand editing, also surprisingly occurs more often than I expected and others expect. Thanks again for the message, and please don't be a stranger if I can provide advice, input, or assistance with anything. :-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:13, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. We haven't every interacted that much. It's rare but I do, as all admins do, need the occasionally CheckUser done. So always good to have someone willing to do so (with the appropriate evidence and justification obviously, this isn't a tool to just pull out at random.) Question from Zai44057 (21:18, 12 July 2023)
how do i make a wiki page --Zai44057 (talk) 21:18, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- Howdy! I have asked some questions on your talk page. Let's talk there. BusterD (talk) 21:28, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Could you and I go over the value of tools?
Given I just told another younger editor to read it, I re-read WP:BLOCK myself today. Today, I went out of my way to avoid even partially blocking a new editor (it felt bitey), choosing to adjust page protection briefly. I've been in several situations lately where I felt I should block based on current behavior but chose another solution. In my RFA you questioned me about blocking and I didn't feel strongly about my answer then. Would you mind if you and I had a dialog of some kind about when to draw the line? BusterD (talk) 21:24, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- As I was saying. Thanks for the help at Chapel. BusterD (talk) 19:13, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

Why did you delete my article? The Chidush Rabbi (talk) 00:49, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi The Chidush Rabbi, and welcome to Wikipedia! By "article", I believe you're referring to your user page. It was deleted for meeting Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion due to the content only consisting of advertising or promotion (this includes users talking about themselves and their activity outside of Wikipedia). See this section (specifically [[WP:UP#PROMO|this rule) on Wikipedia's policies on user pages. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:42, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
ACC approval query
Hello @Oshwah, I hope you're doing great. I tried to reach out to you via IRC but it seems my message didn't go through. Anyways, I saw that you're a tool administrator for the Account creation Interface, and so would like to ask you to review my application. I requested access to the interface more than 3 months ago I reckon, but have not received any update about the same (either approval or denial). I would be delighted if you can take action and approve my request, and if not, deny it so that I can improve on the reason(s) for denial. I have made myself familiar with the appropriate guidelines and am confident to take this role. Thanks for your understanding. ❯❯❯ Raydann(Talk) 11:22, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Raydann! Thanks for the message and for letting me know about your application to join the account creation team as an ACC Tool User. I will start by saying that the ACC Tool Administrator team needs to be more diligent with checking for new ACC Tool User applications, as well as responding to them. I'm actually the person that usually checks for new applications and begins relevant discussion to get input from other ACC Tool admins if there are no obvious red flags or issues that would easily bar the user from being approved. I'll check your application (as well as any application submitted by other users) tomorrow; thank you for the reminder that I need to do this, and I apologize for allowing the application process to take this long. If you have other questions or if you need anything else, please let me know and I'll be happy to help. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:13, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Question from Gallidae199 (16:27, 22 July 2023)
Hi I have a photograph of Houghton Poultry Research station from an annual report of 1974. Can I use it in the Wikipedia article on same. I have published the photo before in a book I edited? --Gallidae199 (talk) 16:27, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Gallidae199! Welcome to Wikipedia! The answer to your question depends heavily (if not almost entirely) on whether or not the image's copyrights allow for its replication, distribution, or use here. You'll find extensive help and explanation of Wikipedia's policies on copyright requirements by clicking here (specifically, this section of that page will be relevant to you). It also wouldn't be a bad idea to also read through this page regarding copyright violations on Wikipedia. After reading through those pages, if you have any questions or don't understand a requirement or concept, please let me know and I'll be happy to help! :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:19, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Question from Hami09 on Draft:Hayat (10:43, 23 July 2023)
Hi I want to add pictures to my article --Hami09 (talk) 10:43, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Hami09, and welcome to Wikipedia! It sounds like you're looking for help with how to add and use images on Wikipedia. If that's the case, you can check out Wikipedia's information page on images here. It lists relevant tutorials, guidelines, and policies involving their use. The very important thing that you need to make sure that you understand and comply with at all times is Wikipedia's policy on copyrights, and to avoid causing any copyright violations. Obeying media copyrights is extremely crucial on Wikipedia; it's a policy that we take very seriously, and causing violations due to carelessness or lack of knowledge (especially if repeated) usually leads to users being blocked from editing Wikipedia until they can demonstrate that they understand the policy and will not cause further copyright issues. It can even hurt your future on Wikipedia as far as community trust and holding account permissions goes. So please read through those policies and be diligent and careful with uploading and using images here. If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best regards - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:54, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Question from Cmar1968 on User:Revirvlkodlaku (21:27, 24 July 2023)
Hi why has my edit been reversed? Zita Sattar is not in a relationship with Declan O’Dwyer. Declan O’Dwyer will soon be marrying Zoey Rocha. Please see link to their wedding website. https://www.zola.com/wedding/zoeyanddeclan
Please can you remove Declan O’Dwyer from Zita Sattar’s page. --Cmar1968 (talk) 21:27, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Cmar1968! Welcome to Wikipedia! Your reference constitutes a primary source, since the URL is to the wedding page that's (apparently) being run by the article subject. I would review Wikipedia's policy on reliable sources, locate references that meet this criteria, and then try again. You'll to cite those references in-line with your changes. If there are still issues, start a discussion on the article's talk page; don't edit war. Please let me know if you have any more questions and I'll be happy to answer them. Best wishes - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:09, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Cmar1968, I'm not sure why you posted your question here instead of mine or the article talk page, but the reason I reverted your edit is because, while what you're saying about Sattar and O'Dwyer is likely true, it needs to be supported by a credible reference. Had you included the wedding page you mention above, I might have left your edit as it was, but that wouldn't have been ideal either, as Oshwah has explained. Hope you understand. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 03:01, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
The accounts you just blocked with a slur in their name
It might be wise to scrub WP:UAA too, as I had reported those there. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 04:44, 26 July 2023 (UTC)

- Life's been... eh. Could be better. And you? LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 05:03, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- LilianaUwU - I'm honestly kind of in the same boat personally; a "mixed bag" is what I'd call my life right now. I'm busy with work, and it takes a lot of energy out of me by the time I'm done with the day. On top of that, I'm trying to study for a certification exam that I need to pass and earn before I'm considered for promotion and better pay. So basically I'm busting ass at work, then I'm expected to study for a needed exam during my personal life and not be paid for that. {(s)}Just so... wonderful... it's what I just look forward to doing when I get home.{(/s)} I have college degrees - one in computer software engineering and the other one in applied mathematics, and I'm having to fight tooth-and-nail so I can make ends meet at times.
- Life's been... eh. Could be better. And you? LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 05:03, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- I see on social media where people who have jobs that are really not great (minimum wage or more, no benefits, anyone can apply and would be hired) constantly talking about vacations, new car, and other stuff. How?!! Are you taking out loans or going into deep debt? How do they do it?!! I'm on beans and rice for meals, driving a 30 year old beater truck, and paying rent each month to live in a shelter that's (literally) double what my parents paid each month to purchase a house! Not rent... purchase. I just really am starting to feel worn out with it all... :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:11, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
Question from AlbertEinstein relativity (06:13, 27 July 2023)
Hi sir.please do tell me how to edit stuff. I am eally interested in physics and its various laws.
Thank you, regards, your apprentice --AlbertEinstein relativity (talk) 06:13, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi AlbertEinstein relativity! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad that you're here to edit and help expand the project, and I'm glad you're here to receive assistance with doing so. :-) Wikipedia's getting started page is a great place for first-time users to start learning about Wikipedia, how to contribute, and how things work around here (in a general sense). One of the first pages listed in the getting started guide is this tutorial, which guides you step-by-step though editing a page, creating a page, and responding to discussion. I would absolutely go through and complete this tutorial; it will provide you with a lot of interactive help. If you have questions or need anything else, please let me know and I'll be happy to lend a hand. :-) Again, I welcome you on board, and I wish you happy editing. Question from Abdulla aptask (18:26, 28 July 2023)
i want to create a page for my company, how do i go about doing it? --Abdulla aptask (talk) 18:26, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Abdulla aptask! Welcome to Wikipedia! The short answer to your question is that you shouldn't do that at all. Wikipedia's principles and guidelines highly discourage creating or contributing to any articles or pages where you have a personal conflict of interest with. This is because of the fact that those who do this have an obvious bias, viewpoint, or involvement with the article subject, which in turn makes it nearly impossible for them to write content that is worded to reflect a neutral point of view, which is required for all article content.
- Users who decide to continue and do this anyways will almost-100% always find out (either quickly or eventually) that all of the time, energy, and effort they spent toward creating, writing, and expanding this article have gone to complete waste and toward no result or impact at all. Editors often patrol new article and pages (including myself), and it's very easy from just reading through the newly-added content to spot users who are creating or expanding an article in which they have a conflict of interest with. Additionally, if the article does not meet Wikipedia's notability or claim of significance guidelines, it will get deleted - either through Wikipedia's speedy deletion process, or Wikipedia's proposed deletion or articles for deletion processes.
- Instead, you should contribute to other subjects and topic areas that interest you, but where no conflict of interest will become a distraction to your decisions and your writing. If your company is indeed notable and should definitely have its own Wikipedia article, another editor will certainly create and expand that article without a doubt. Don't waste your time! If you have any more questions, please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:37, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
Sad news
Hello, I am very sorry to report that Eagleash has passed away. Since your talk page was one of his most edited pages, I thought I should let you know. Graham87 12:50, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- Graham87 - Awwww.......... That's... extremely sad news to hear. Wikipedia, as well as the Wikimedia project has a whole, has lost both a very good contributor and a very good person. Obviously, my thoughts are with his friends and family and those who were close to him. I hope they properly mourn in a healthy way, and I really do hope that they know that (as I feel) that it was a privilege to know him and work along his side. Thank you for letting me know; I appreciate it a lot. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:35, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
Can I nominate this [1] for deletion?
I don't think it is notable, but my failed previous afds scared me away from directly nominating it, do you have any advice on this? Grandmaster Huon (talk) 18:03, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- Grandmaster Huon - My initial reaction and the quick searches I made online tell me that this article subject is notable and would be a bad candidate to consider for deletion. You're improving already by asking questions when you're unsure instead of just making assumptions - keep that up for sure, and thank you for asking. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:17, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

I was being bold here [5] see the issue box,
Was I being helpful there? Grandmaster Huon (talk) 18:39, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- Grandmaster Huon - I understand that you're trying to be helpful, but I'm afraid that I don't agree with what you tagged on this article as needing improvement.
- "This article may need to be rewritten to comply with Wikipedia's quality standards." Why? What exactly is not formatted correctly in regards to Wikipedia's manual of style? I took a cursory look at the article, its structure, and its formatting. I didn't see an issue at all.
- "This article may have too many section headers dividing up its content." No, it really doesn't. The article separates its content using appropriate section headers to summarize what that section is about. Why do you think there are too many? I really don't know how or why you came to that conclusion.
- "This article may be too long to read and navigate comfortably." I also disagree. The article subject is about a fictional character that's featured in numerous animated series, comics, books, movies, and other media. The size of this article seems completely appropriate given the amount of information that's available to provide on this subject.
- "This article consists almost entirely of a plot summary. It should be expanded to provide more balanced coverage that includes real-world context." This issue is for articles that are covering a subject about a movie, book, TV series, etc. This article is covering the fictional character and makes mention of where this character is featured, but that's completely appropriate. This information aside, I can already tell you by just looking at the table of contents for the article that it absolutely does not "almost entirely of a plot summary."
- "This article describes a work or element of fiction in a primarily in-universe style." Where? Show me exactly where in the article you see this occurring at. Because I don't see that at all.
- "This article's plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed." Again, this is an article about the fictional character, not a film, movie, book, episode of a TV show, or other media. What "plot summary" are you talking about?
- I think you need to go back and carefully re-read all of the guidelines that are linked within each improvement tag you added. It's clear that you don't have enough experience yet to make these kind of judgement calls. You'll get there someday, but it's not there right now. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:03, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
