User:Oshah/D-Day vs. Normandy Landings Survey 2020
Methodology
[edit]I surveyed all 39 sources listed under Bibliography, all 15 books under "Further reading", all 10 links under external links, the memoirs of the 6 surviving D-Day commanders (who wrote memoirs), the 77 books in Bibliography of World War II (although I ended up discarding 61 books which didn't discuss Normandy), and 10 general histories from my own library of books.
For each source, I did a textual search for the phrases "D-Day", "Normandy" and "Landing(s)". If one of the phrases appeared in the title, that source would be marked as containing that phrase in the results table. In the case of "Landings", I would check the nearby keywords to ensure the subject really was on the Landings at Normandy. If no phrase appears in the title, I would repeat the search on the "Table of Contents". If a match still wasn't found, I would repeat the search using the prose. Here, I would reach the contextual paragraph of each match to ensure the topic under discussion really was the 6 June 1944 event.
For the Google Scholar searches, I searched performed a search for "D-Day"[1], "Normandy landings" [2], and '"D-day" "Normandy landings"' [3]. For the 100 cites+ search, the searches were repeated using Harzing's Publish or Perish tool v7.21.2812.7445, exported to Microsoft Excel then filtered only to publications cited >100 times.
