Tan Sri Dato' Seri Ahmad Razali bin Mohamed Ali (10 December 1928 – 16 May 2001) was a Malaysian politician and a member of the United Malays National Organisation, a major component party in the Barisan Nasional. He served as the tenth Menteri Besar of Selangor from 1982 to 1986.

Family

Ahmad Razali bin Mohamed Ali was born on 10 December 1928 to Mohamed Ali Mohd Taib and Khalijah Ahmad, both of Minangkabau descent from Klang, Selangor having blood lineage from Rao Mapat Tunggul, West Sumatra, Indonesia. He was the fourth child of his parents. His elder brother, Ismail Mohamed Ali served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia from 1962 to 1980. His younger sister Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali is the wife of Mahathir Mohamad, the fourth and seventh Prime Minister of Malaysia. His youngest brother, General Mohamed Hashim Mohd Ali was the Chief of Defence Forces from 1987 to 1992.[1]

He was married twice. His first wife was Puan Sri Zaleha Abd. Kadir and his second wife was Puan Sri Wan Mah Rejab. He had eight children from both of his wives.

Political career

Ahmad Razali joined UMNO in 1946 when he was merely eighteen years old. He served as the UMNO Youth Wing chief for Hulu Klang district from 1951 to 1964. In 1967 Kampung Baru State Assembly by-election, he won on the Alliance party ticket. In 1982, he was chosen as the Menteri Besar of Selangor by his brother-in-law and Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad despite being unpopular among the party cadre and lack of experience. He served as the state's head of government until 1986.[2]

Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Raghad Kurdi Taib (born 15 January 1980) is the widow of the former Yang di-Pertua Negeri and Chief Minister of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Family

Raghad was born in Damascus, Syria on 15 January 1980. She is the youngest of four children of Waleed Alkurdi and Khayami Alkurdi. Her other siblings are Samer, Mohamad and Samar. Her family moved to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia when she was young. Her father died in 2003.

Her ancestor was a Wari from Orfa, Kurdistan. Her ancestor's original name was Khalil Orfali who later changed his name to Al-Kurdi when he moved to Syria.[6]

Ragad married Abdul Taib Mahmud at the age of 30 on 18 December 2010. Tengku Muda Pahang Tengku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah (born 23 August 1960 in Istana Mangga Tunggal, Pekan, Pahang) is the fifth child and second son of the late Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang and his late consort Tengku Ampuan Afzan. He is a younger brother of the current Sultan, Abdullah of Pahang.

Early life and education

Tengku Abdul Rahman is the fifth of the seven children of the late Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah and late Tengku Ampuan Afzan. He continued his studies at Harrow College Middlesex, United Kingdom and successfully obtained a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA).

Chairman of the Pahang Regency Council

Upon the election of his elder brother, the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Abdullah as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 31 January 2019 and the subsequent absence of the Regent and Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah from the state, Tengku Abdul Rahman was appointed as the Chairman of the Pahang Regency Council on 15 February 2019 and served until Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim's return on 15 December 2019.

His appointment was held in accordance with Clause 1(a) of Article 18 (Part One) of the Constitution of Pahang, that is, if the Ruler is elected to hold the office of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, then the ruler can appoint the Regent or the Regency Council for perform royal duties until the ruler ceases to carry out the duties of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Apart from Tengku Abdul Rahman, his younger half-brother Tengku Fahad Mua'adzam Shah, the Tengku Arif Temenggong, was also a member of the regency council.[10] The members of the Pahang Regency Council included:

The Most Blessed Rich Treasurer Seri Maharaja General (B) Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr) Mohd Zahidi bin Haji Zainuddin is the 12th Commander of the Armed Forces and before that he was the Commander Army the 17th. He joined the Army in 1964 by attending training at the Royal Military Academy. He was commissioned as a Junior Lieutenant in the Royal Malay Soldier Regiment on 13 April 1967. He retired on 25 April 2005.

He was appointed as the Orang Besar of Perak and given the position of Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja (Treasurer) replacing Tun Syed Zahiruddin bin Syed Hassan in 2013.[11]

Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil (born (1970-03-28)March 28, 1970 at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Malaysia) is the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis and the wife of Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, the Raja Muda (Crown Prince) of Perlis.

Personal life

Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen was born on 28 March 1970 as the second of the four children of Dato' Khalil Akasah and Datin Nik Rahimah Wan Ahmad. Her other siblings include Lailatul Zuraidha Akashah (born 1968), Khalimahtul Idereena (born 1976) and Khalimahtul Ema Durrah (born 1983).

Education

Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen received her education at Bukit Nenas Convent School, Kuala Lumpur from 1977 to 1984, and then continued her studies at Melbourne Girls Grammar School, Merton Hall, Australia. She successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia in 1992 and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang in 2014. She was also awarded Honoris Causa in Health Sciences by the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña, Dominican Republic. She currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor of the Universiti Malaysia Perlis.[21]

On 25 May 2023, Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Islamic studies from Universiti Malaya.[22] She conducted scientific research that titled "The Importance of Islamic Regal Leadership In Zakat Delivery To The Asnaf In Perlis".[23][24]

Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen is actively associated with several associations and serves as patron of several NGO bodies, including:

  • Malaysian Women's Malay Chamber of Commerce (WOMENITA) Perlis State

She was also appointed as the Chairman of two social bodies, namely the La Trobe University Alumni Association (PALTUM) and the Tuanku Fauizah Foundation (YTF). Until 1995, she held the position as Administrative Manager of ASIE Sdn. Bhd. but decided to resign from the position to accompany her husband, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra in carrying out his official duties abroad, in Madrid (1995–1998) and Zürich (1998–2002).

Marriage and children

Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen first met Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, the Raja Muda of Perlis while continuing her studies in Australia. She married Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra on 9 March 1994. The wedding ceremony took place at various locations including Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur; Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and Kota Bharu, Kelantan and at Dewan Warisan, Kangar.
