’’RIVERS IN THE CAPRIVI REGION’’
[edit]Caprivi is one of the 13 regions of Namibia. It is regarded as the first region and it located in northern east part of Namibia. It is the only place or region in Namibia that has a lot of rivers and it is basically because of these that it has become a favourite tourist attraction. It is approximately 1000km from the capital city Windhoek. The first river found in the Caprivi is the mighty Zambezi River. The Zambezi River is about 2572 km long and is the fourth longest river in Africa. The river stretches along the Katima Mulilo town. It provides different fun activities like swimming and fishing for the people in Katima Mulilo town. People also get to watch water animals like crocodiles and hippos and other water animals. It is also a source of water and electricity for the town. There are several lodges built on the river like Zambezi lodge, kalizo lodge, Caprivi cabins and hippo lodge among others. The Zambezi River is where the Wenela Bridge was built the one that borders Namibia and Zambia. The other river found in Caprivi is the Kwando River. Kwando River flows through Angola and in the Caprivi Strip, into the Linyanti swamp on the northern border of Botswana. Below the swamp it is called Linyanti River by the mambalangwe people of the Caprivi and further east it is called Chobbe River by the Masubia people in Caprivi, before it flows into the Zambezi River. The River continues it marshy channel across the neck of the Caprivi Strip and then forms the border between Namibia and Botswana. The river is very helpful to villagers living nearby it, as it is a source of food and water to some and it is also a source of income to others. Finally the river provides fun filled activities for these people like swimming, fishing and canoeing ect.
