Presentation of Johnson-Youngstrom Poster Award

[edit]

The award was presented to Tommy Ng for his work on meta-analyses of imaging. The prize was a $250 debit card. Congratulations!

Ideas for improving listserv

[edit]
  1. Create a list: Name, email, current projects
  2. When preparing talks, compile symposiums. SIG members could submit talks, and the SIG can compile symposiums and submit.
  3. Sending around information, job offers, etc
  4. Organizing ABCT bipolar SIG at ISBD

Assessment

[edit]

Recruitment

[edit]

Problem #1: Mood networks

[edit]
  • Changes in mood networks predicting the catastrophic shifts in bipolar disorder
  • Problems are with people getting involved, primary referral are from clinicians

Solutions

[edit]
  • Video conferencing consenting
  • Keeping assessments truncated - the shorter the better
  • Have different assessments at different time points, longer people
  • Keep people interested by mailing them, so that they don't lose address
  • Ask about things, "e.g., how was your pet dog from xx time ago"
  • Automated consent forms
  • Going to participants to ask them in the waiting room
  • First contacts should be well-trained, and better able to deal with dysregulated individuals

Online versus in-person

[edit]
  • Retention becomes more difficult when you go online
    • Making it fun
  • Calling in makes it difficult when people need to come back for follow-ups
  • When technology is used (e.g., Fitbits), it is more difficult

Solutions

[edit]
  • Incentive-based system if people don't come back
  • Paying incentives based on number of completed trials (e.g., $0.01 per completed task, up to $50)
  • Earning Amazon gift cards
  • Progressive reinforcement -- Uber system?
  • Accounting for inflation (people get paid more over time)

Ethical issues

[edit]
  • When does it become unethical?
    • Discussed reinforcement for clinicians, paying extra -- not ethical

Online recruitment

[edit]
  • How do you give online recruitment consent?

Idea

[edit]
  • Add matrix for assessment for bipolar disorder
