Stanley Cup Playoff Format (1999-Present)
[edit]Teams are seeded in each conference based on the following:
- Seed #1 - 1st place team in Conference
- Seed #2 - 1st place team of the 2 remaining Divison Winners
- Seed #3 - Remaining Divison Winner
- Seed #4 - 1st place of remaining teams
- Seed #5 - 2nd place of remaining teams
- Seed #6 - 3rd place of remaining teams
- Seed #7 - 4th place of remaining teams
- Seed #8 - 5th place of remaining teams
The higher seeded team always as home ice advantage.
The teams are re-seed for the Conference Semi-finals with the highest ranked remaining seed facing the lowest ranked remaining seed and the other two remaining teams facing off against each other.
