LOUDS
LOUDS is an American Indie Rock / Experimental Pop band from Philadelphia, PA. LOUDS was founded by brothers Charlie and Petie Brooks in 2014. The Brooks brothers grew up playing and recording music together and have formed a number of experimental pop bands throughout their lives. While studying Figurative Painting and Creative Writing, respectively at the University of Connecticut, the brothers found themselves in the company of like minded friends and talented, ambitious artists pushing the boundaries of songwriting and recording. Many of those fellow artists remain close friends and collaborators for the brothers today.
IF MORE PEOPLE BOUGHT ART MORE PEOPLE WOULD BUY ART
During 2014, Charlie and Petie Brooks spent much of the year travelling to Boston, MA to record with University of Connecticut friend and collaborator Brett Boucher of the psychedelic pop band The Derevolutions. The four song EP titled If More People Bought Art More People Would Buy Art was named after a painting, inspired by Christopher Wool, that Petie made for Charlie following an art opening. Due to the distance between Boston and Philadelphia and the busy schedules of the group, many of the sessions were restricted to two or three day marathons where sleep was often overlooked in favor of productivity. This "sleep deprivation induced mania" resulted in a hyperactive set of songs that electrified critics and listeners; the release of which launched the brothers into the conversation of Independent Rock and Roll. The debut EP claimed a number of reviews from online sources including Pigeons & Planes, The Wild Honey Pie, My Old Kentucky Blog as well as being named Record of the Month by the DELI magazine. The EP was released on local, boutique label Color Theory Records.
Following the success of "If More People Bought Art More People Would Buy Art" the brothers set about creating a lineup to perform with. Working at Mambo Movers in Philadelphia, a company comprised of fellow artists, was a perfect place to fill out the band. Before settling on the current lineup, a number of friends and coworkers helped out and filled in playing shows around Philadelphia and Brooklyn. The current and final lineup consists of the Brothers, Alejandro Torres-Giraldo, Dan Henry, and Juston Stens, of Kill You In The Face, Hail Social / Memory Tapes, and Dr. Dog / The Generationals, respectively.
CHARM UP!
CHARM UP! is LOUDS building a studio, toying around with old equipment, wrestling with tape machines, and struggling to survive the tensions that arise from conflicting musical backgrounds and approaches. The process is painstaking, but as is often the case, with a little perseverance the outcome can be even a little more exciting than one expects, and the thrill of witnessing a band and it’s music becoming much more than the sum of its five parts makes it all quite worthwhile. LOUDS hopes for a winter/spring 2017 release of CHARM UP!
