This is a list of all Magic: The Gathering Pro Tour Top Eights.[1][2]
Season one (1996)
[edit]Pro Tour - New York (February 16–18, 1996)
[edit]At Pro Tour New York the play-draw rule was introduced to make the game more fair. Before New York the starting player would draw a card on his first turn.[3] As the first Pro Tour several things were done different in New York than at later Pro Tours. Thus the tournament consisted of seven rounds of swiss play, followed by a cut to top 16. Originally the Pro Tour was announced as The Black Lotus Pro Tour the name did not stick after New York and the name was changed to Pro Tour. Pro Tour New York was also known as PT Speed Dial, because players had to call the Wizards of the Coast offices to register for on of the limited slots. Eventually the first PT started off on a sour note, being delayed by four hours due to a snow storm.[1]
