Monin Brand History and Origins

[edit]

Georges Monin founded Monin in 1912 in the heard of Bourges, France.[1] He focused his work on exploring flavors to provide professionals with quality liqueurs.[1][2] By the 1930s, Monin fruit syrup was one of the leading brands on the domestic market.[2]

Monin Americas - Expansion into the US and beyond

[edit]

In 1999, Bill Lombardo was brought on by Oliver Monin to expand and direct operations in the Western Hemisphere.[3]

"At the time, Monin had a small presence in the Western Hemisphere. The company did some business in Canada and had an importer that lived in the Clearwater area. 'At first it was just a gentleman importing products,' Lombardo explains. 'But the U.S. market had a lot of potential'.[3]

Flavor Innovation

[edit]

When Monin was focused on launching into the US, the only syrup Americans were familiar with was maple. Monin pushed restaurants and fast food chains to give their drinks a twist:

“I said 'you have iced tea, why not make raspberry iced tea?"[3]

According to Monin Exec Bill Lombardo, flavored coffee, smoothies and frozen lemonades at the local McDonalds is a result of the McD’s execs meeting with Monin. [3]

Flavor Forward Process

[edit]

In 2017, Monin was recognized for it’s 8 step process for directing the marketing of its products.[4] The Flavor Forward Process involves Survey data collection#online surveys, taste tests, global insights, tracking menu offerings, demographics, combining research with input from global Beverage Innovation Directors. [4]

Concentrated Flavor

[edit]

Monin Concentrated flavor is an innovative product line that is unique to Monin. In response to the consumer trend to seek lower sugar and calorie products, each bottle is a clean label, naural, highly concentrated and unsweetened flavoring. With offerings across all taste profiles, a single pump contains flavor to transform any dish or beverage at only 10-13 calories. <ref="FSR">[4]</ref>
