Dzongs
[edit]Good work. I'll work on it a bit tomorrow. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 17:00, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Tranlsated the French, it virtually had nothing more than you've alkready got. I'm concerned though that most of the article is about nearby structures. I'll ask John Hill to expand it, I think he is not left yet. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 10:11, 2 August 2010 (UTC) Hi, I'm moved Enchey Monastery into main space, it should qualify. I've replaced it with a World Heritage Site in Iran at User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 1. As a WHS there should be plenty of sources on it. Hope you find it interesting. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 13:30, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
You are also invited to expand Nickel mining in New Caledonia as an off topic. There is a lot of information available on it. Its almost start class already. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 18:34, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Salmon Creek Dam
[edit]Hi, When you created Salmon Creek Dam, you used the term 'tonne/ft'. Can you tell me where you got that term from? I've queried the term at the talk page. Feel free to respond at: Talk:Salmon_Creek_Dam. Regards Lightmouse (talk) 11:12, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- Clarified on talk page of the article. User:Lightmouse has made the necessary corrections of the unit conversions in the article. Thanks-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 16:29, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

- I will upload the other pictures soon im just trying to solve the copyright on the current one beacuse i havnt been good adding copyright to pictures but it should be fixed soon. Also i am making a Portal for Bhutan but im having trouble and also i nominated the picture we have of the King of Bhutan for Commons featured picture right now the picture has 2 support(counting me) and 3 oppossed. Hello. For some reason finding info for Dechencholing Palace is tough. By book does not have anything already mentioned. I've added a few sentences and sources but it is very difficult to find anything on architecture I'm afraid. Dr. Blofeld - 15:36, 18 July 2010 (UTC) 19:36, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- I saw your expansion of the palace article. Are you gonna go for DYK for it? Also I will upload the other photos soon I'm just busy. Spongie555 (talk) 08:54, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. I will wait for another three days to see if some more text related to architecture of the palace could be located. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:14, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- I saw Dr.Blofeld has put a fact about the palace for DYK nomination. It is a interesting fact about how it has a helipad but Thimphu doesn't. Spongie555 (talk) 21:29, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thimphu has civic administartion
- Also im thinking of nominating the Bhutan article for GA status since it was already a FA. Do you think its good enough? It looks fine to me but i wanted to see what you think? Spongie555 (talk) 19:05, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

- The Bhutan article downgraded to Class C needs a lot of additional inputs. It will take several days of inputs from reliable sources to bring it up even to Thimpu standard. You are welcome to add on the lines of the other major countries of the world which are at FA level such as London.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 00:53, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- oh no wonder its C class. I just wanted to get another Bhutan article to GA, i think Flag of Bhutan might have a chance for GA but idk. Also i uploaded the other two pictures of the palace and put them on the page. Also are we gonna make a page for Samteling Palace, i have already asked my friend in Bhutan for a picture of Samteling Palace? Since i saw it was a redlink and it is a important to Bhutan. Spongie555 (talk) 03:29, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I saw the two pictures and fitted in a double image format. I have given you credit for the DYK. The DYK is cleared but there is bit of a banter, as you can see at the bottom of this page, since I posted an article (rib ticklinng) on my Sanbox user page 5 for Dr.Blofeld to edit further. Yes, why not Samtheling Palace. But there is not much written about it.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 04:28, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes i did see the sanbox article and the DYK nomination for it. It is very bizare DYK nomination. Also Samtheling Palace probably doesnt have alot written about it but i bet there are some basic stuff. I am planning to work on some Bhutan sport related articles but i am looking for recources right now. I did put a Bhutan sport related article for DYK I hope it passes but I'm worried if the person isn't notable enough he is the only Bhutanese runner to run internationally , Rinzin Dorji. Do you think he is notable enough?Spongie555 (talk) 22:41, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I have a question for Thimphu article. Thimphu doesnt have any local government? Also a member of Russian WikiProject Bhutan found out the translation of Thimphu into Dzongkha. Spongie555 (talk) 05:11, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thimphu has an exclusive civic administration, which has been explained in the article. Thimphu is also the name of district where Thimpu city, the capital is located. The district is called a Dzongkha. We have to abide by what our references (all authentic) in the article and not Russian wiki (in fact we can not quote texts from other wikis references).-- N.V.V. LOL. Nsk92 are you not British? Nvvchar sent me the User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 5 he is working on. If you actually see what is featured you'll see why me good humored "How rude!" comment applies. It was said in good humour not in actual horror or certainly anything remotely to do with your DYK comments LOL. Dr. Blofeld 11:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
LOL not at all. Dr. Blofeld 12:45, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
That "saint" seems rather a rogue and womanizing drunk, not too unlike the 6th Dalai Lama.... I've started the article and hadded a bit, its a highly interesting article. Can you source "According to the legend, he used to hit the evil forces with his penis (or cohabited with them) and turn them into protective dieties" and i'll nominate it. I actually think it stands a good chance of over 5000 views, you know how curious people are over anything sexual. Dr. Blofeld 09:49, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
The natural thing here would be a double article hook including Chimi Lhakhang. What do you think? I have a small paragraph on it in my book. Dr. Blofeld 11:08, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I've spotted some good sources, BBC etc. I came across this image. The disclaimer says the person if asked would release. Perhaps you could ask him for it/change the license? Dr. Blofeld 11:26, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
OK, I've made a start at User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 5. I'll let you build it first and then if I can Ill add to it later, that's all I have in my book on it though. We should request more photos like this and this etc. Dr. Blofeld 11:42, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, this is surely one of the "naughtiest" DYKs ever! One thing though can you assert in both articles that Chimi monastery also has Phallus paintings on its whalls for the sake of the hook. Thanks. Dr. Blofeld 17:26, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
What? See the top of Template talk:Did you know. Dr. Blofeld 17:28, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I think you'd be surprised. I think a lot of people will approve of it; and its not as if me note about it being bizarre is going to make people not know it anyway. Coverage in sources like the BBC extra means that neither article has a chance of being deleted. They are well sourced and as bizarre as it is it is part of Bhutan's culture. I was previously unaware of the phallus on wall theme, great work. Dr. Blofeld 17:40, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
On a more conservative note, I found this source which could be used to add more info about Thimphu geography. What do you think? Also we could use it for an article on the Thimphu Valley. Dr. Blofeld 17:42, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I've begun expanding Ti Rimochen Monastery, you may be interested. Also I've put an article in User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 5 which I removed from the painsapce as it needs improving/sourcing. I hope you are interested in these two. Plenty to be getting on with, I'll resume with my DNB articles for a few days, give you some time to catch up!! Dr. Blofeld 17:53, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Lugu lake
[edit]Hi, just thought I'd let you know I've nominated File:Montage_of_Lugu_Lake,_Yunan_Province,_China.jpg for deletion on commons as a copyvio. It's not you at fault, but the photo on Flickr is a copyvio so we can't use it here AFAIK. I noticed it whilst checking the DYK nom, I noticed the hook and the article say it is "considered the largest expanse of water". Could you point me to the source making the claim? Considered seems a strange word to use here - it either is or is not the largest expanse of water. Thanks Smartse (talk) 18:28, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review observations. I have removed the guilty img. Yes, when I uploaded the img, and even when I cropped it to montage of six imgs, I had not seen the remark on the license issue. However, it was a good img to use, only if the licence could permit it. As regards the second observation on the usage of the word "considered" and the related reference, I wish to clarify that the reference is from the book at ref 3 in the article, titled "The Road to Lugu by Stephen Mansfiled and others". It says in the first sentence "Straddling the Yunnan Siachun border Lugu Lake (Lugu Hu) has an altitude of 2,685 m above sea level, the highest expanse of water in Yunnan." I inferred the word highest expanse to mean the "largest expanse of water." To be safe, I tagged it with the word "considered". You are right, both usages could be inappropriate. I would appreciate your suggesting a suitable change to the Hook. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 15:11, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yea it was a pity, because it was a nice montage. Looking at the links in Yunnan_Province#Lakes it isn't the largest lake in the province. I'll change the hook to being the highest lake instead of the largest lake, I'll also remove considered, because it's not something that someone can have an opinion on. Smartse (talk) 15:41, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Viet provinces
[edit]Emailed some papers found on Yen Bai. More coming YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 09:44, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi I'm back from my trip down the Pembrokeshire coast. Nice work on Glacier Bay and the Yunnan lake. With a bit of work they may reach GA status. Can we get these Vietnamese provinces done? They've been lingering for ages, I want to get them out of the way and move on... Dr. Blofeld 10:10, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm beginning to reference them and move them into the main space. So far I've moved Province 1. Really I want to get these provinces done by September.... Dr. Blofeld 11:04, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
I've gone live with Province 1, 2, 3, 4 (still needs a lot of work, particularly translation) 9, and 11 of Đông Bắc. Can you help get 5,6,7,8 and 10 completed next week? I'm just eager that we get these out of the way as the burden of them remaining in the user space is too great! Dr. Blofeld 12:18, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah its tough, but please please don't give up. I'll clean up the translations and process them if you can write about the provinces using sources you can find and expand on your own accord. I've already added multiple sources to the first provinces today. We'll be rewarded with an 11 article DYK at the end of it. See User:Nvvchar/Vietnam Province 6 its already looking better. Yellow Monkey can hopefully translate the history. A few sources can hopefully be found and with minimal work the article will be looking good. We really are more than half done already. I'm counting on your excellent writing to get through this. Dr. Blofeld 14:44, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Have I offended you somehow? I do hope not. What shall we do about these Vietnam provinces? Have you lost interest? See User:Nvvchar/Vietnam Province 6. The remaining ones, particularly 5, 7, 8 and 10 with a bit of work will be ready I'm sure. It would be a great to have 11 articles on the front page at once especially on a country like Vietnam. Please respond so we can discuss it. The translation problem can be sorted either removed or translated and a few sourrces added, enough to be accpetable for DYK. I'd also like to help some of your Alaska articles pass GA. Do you still want to work with me? Dr. Blofeld
Mmm the thing is I thought by moving them into the main space it would spur us to get it finished. Admittedly I can almost given up on them and lost my passion for working on them. Remember there are only really four articles now which need much work 5, 7, 8 and 10. The others are pretty much OK, although 4 still needs a Yellow Monkey translation. If I out in a lot of effort this coming week to build them up do you think you can add your additions? Do you think four articles and a few additions to some of the others is too steep? I remember you producing like ten articles on Sikkim in a week! I'll try and do the bulk of the work but if I feel on my own with them I'll feel discouraged. I knew it was a bit much of a challenge with I first said about it. I'll try and find some more pictures to upload from Viet wiki to make it more attractive for you. Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
I'm deeply in gratitude for you resuming work on this. i mean that. I know how it is because it was also a drag for me to resume on it. You know I'll return the favour whenever you need helping copyediting or promoting an article you want to reach GA, Its regaining your enthuiasm for a set of articles I guess. Usually an abundance of sources and images do a lot to help but it is often difficult to find sources. Anyway I've found some images for you to use in Lang Son article.
I'll have a look on flickr, there are none other in the districts on Viet wiki. Dr. Blofeld 14:31, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Try these for Lang Son Province. Dr. Blofeld 14:49, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Yes excellent work. I've made good progress on Province 7 today cleaning up the economy and writing a economy section. Tomorrow I'll find all the communes for 7, 8 and 10 and area/pop data and add a few paragraphs. I do hope Yelllow Monkey will help translate. I gather you received the zillion book pages by email? Dr. Blofeld 20:17, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
Yikes have you checked your email? That's a lot of email from YM!! Dr. Blofeld 08:58, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I am aware. But I have no time to look into all the extensive material he has sent since I am presently also very busy with my professional work which will continue for the next few days. In fact, I have been able to see the mail only just now. I will use info provided by Yellow Monkey to the extent my time permits. In fact, today early in the day, on my breakfast table, I added some more text to Yen Bai from his book sources. I will probably be able to do Quang Ninh this evening.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 09:41, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Impressive. I added some info and the communes yesterday to province 7 but it now needs your resoureful inputs. Tonight I'll try to find some info about its national park to add and aim to add the communes to province 8 and 10. I added some of the book info earlier to Province 6 but not about the Hmong people. Once they are done its really only a cleanup job and some expansion.sourcing needed on the others and we'll have it done. Dr. Blofeld 18:03, 27 August 2010 (UTC) Haha! Thanks. You go off and enjoy the day with your brother in law now and tell him to stop moaning LOL!! Dr. Blofeld 12:43, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks good. I think we have all of the articles started now. If its OK by you I'll nominate the articles for DYK now. All we need to do now is a bit of improvement work on the existing articles/proof read them and ensure they are written OK with sources. Take it easy though honestly we have 5-6 days at least still, that's plenty of time. The 11 provinces are located at Đông Bắc. If you can check each one over the next week and see if you can find some additional info/improve them al little this would be great. That's what I'm going to do. See, I told you we had already got the bulk of the work done!! Excellent work! Province 10, Tuyen Giang could use some work I think. Excellent work on Glacier Bay by the way. Once we have all of the Vietnam articles fully ready I think one or two of your Alaskan articles could reach GA with some work. Also Yala National Park for Sri Lanka I want to promote to GA with the Sri Lankan project. But no rush, all in good time. Dr. Blofeld 10:08, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
Maybe you could find something on the attractions for Bắc Giang Province to turn the list into text... Dr. Blofeld 17:52, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I;ve nominated the hook ready, we need a source though in the intro to every one of the 11 articles to back up the claim those provinces are in that region, shouldn't be too difficult. Yep the only major things left to do now is translate the history for province 6 which I'll entrust to the monkey and flesh out the attractions sections to Bắc Giang Province and Tuyên Quang Province (which also needs more sourcing to its history section). Other than the odd bit of info from the monkey's books and elswhere can be added and the articles but improved but its mostly finished now. Excellent work! Dr. Blofeld 18:20, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I've added some book info to Lang Son province although I find it far too much for the brain to process to extract info from every page sent by the good monkey. He has sent some very useful new info by email. If you have time perhaps you could browse one of the books and add something. I've mostly done Lang SOn but there is a lot about the ancient Bac Son culture which could be aded in a new paragraph in the Lang Son article. DYK nomination of Phobjika Valley, Black-necked Cranes in Bhutan, and Gangteng Monastery
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Phobjika Valley, Black-necked Cranes in Bhutan, and Gangteng Monastery at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! ~Itzjustdrama ? C 01:56, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]You work alot of Bhutan related articles what about getting Bhutan as a featured topic?
Thats a template of topics of Bhutan that need work. If you dont want to do it is ok. I been working for valued pictures latly so i havnt done much for Bhutan related articles latly. Also the good article nomination for Thimphu is taking a long time. Spongie555 (talk) 03:43, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi, sorry about my absence. My computer crashed and I had to buy a new one. Excellent work the last few days. Now is the hook verified yet. if not, can you think of another one to include all 11 in? Dr. Blofeld 12:01, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Indeed it was. If you or I expand any more Vietnamese provinces in the future it should just be an article at time. 10+ articles for one hook is OK for articles on temples or whatever which are easy to write and have many sources but I agree not where they need translating, expansion and sources in other languages. I believe the job is now complete largely thanks to your amazing work. Of course the articles all need work but I think there is enough for the DYK now anyway. I'll be doing a lot of work on Vietnam and Burma in the coming weeks from a stub level. I have tens of Vietnamese river stubs to create. You'll probably not want to edit anything southeast asia related at the moment though. Have some fun for a few weeks editing whatever takes your fancy. I think the time has come again to promote a few more articles to GA. Yala National Park is one of them which I'd like to help promote for the Sri Lanka project. If you are interested in that let me know. Dr. Blofeld 13:09, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, do add that to the intro of all of the articles and update the hook. That should be fine. What projects do you have lined up next? Dr. Blofeld 14:03, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
I wondered if you fancied expanding Smoking in Indonesia sometime. I will fill out the intros to the provinces tomorrow. Dr. Blofeld 19:45, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ops did i say featured topics i ment good topics. good topics requires good article instead of FA beacuse i know FA is really demanding. Spongie555 (talk) 03:58, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Dunno, perhaps the 11 article was moved to the preperation page ready for posting. I'll ask Material Scientist. Dr. Blofeld 10:02, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Relax, it is in good hands. If Material says it is in prep which I had assumed then it is in good hands. Shame we can't see it though to convince you. There is no way that wikipedia would pass on such an important expansion of multiple articles anyway. I'd bet good money that the 11 article hook will hit the front page within a few days. I'll flesh out some of the intros in a few minutes. Dr. Blofeld 15:05, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Overall its a fantastic result I think. Where did you get the 2008 population figures from though? I want to add that to the introductions with a reference. Dr. Blofeld 16:20, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks I will reference this shortly. I've expanded Berat County. I wondered if you would be interested in expanding it. I am getting the impression from you given that you haven't replied to my last few article suggestions that you are either too tired after the Vietnam articles, angry with me for exerting you, or that you no longer want to contribute with me. If you are not interested please reply, I won't be offended. If you want to take a break from contrubiting/are spending time with your brother in law I fully understand... Dr. Blofeld 11:17, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm very glad to hear as I really enjoy collaborating with you.I look forward to seeing your new articles. Eell there are plenty of short stubs to expand and missing articles. No shortage of those. At present I'm working on a few Aman Resorts hotels like Amantaka and Amanjiwo. Those are completed but there are others. A flickr user changed the license on all his Aman resort images so I can upload them. Hotels may not be your thing but they are different from your normal hotels in that they are incredible architectural pieces often designed like local temples etc. They really are world-class luxury hotels and I'm enjoying working on some of them. If you want to work on one with me next week let me know, but it may not be your thing...What I like about them is that "Aman" means "peace" and each hotel has a different name beginning with Aman. Dr. Blofeld 14:26, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Smoking in Indonesia
[edit]Yeah the hall of fame is some consolation I guess, it would have been nice to have had a word of thanks from an unrelated party though. Good job on that, yes I just know that an awful lot of Indonesian men smoking and adverts are everywhere, having visited the country myself. I will nominate it shortly. I wish other editors were as cooperative as you and Rosiestep. The Albanian project has shown little interest in my Berat County article, I was hoping for a better response from them. Nevermind. . Its already been expanded enough for DYK but a lot of it was copied from the main Berat article so needs a rewrrite to be more about the region than the city. If you are interested in adding a bit to it within the next few days go for it. It has beautiful scenery and interesting places so it would likely be attractive to you. I look forward to seeing your new Tibetan articles? Dr. Blofeld 16:57, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi. I have Sisimiut and Air Greenland awaiting GA review. When the time comes to be reviewed I was wondering if you could help pass them? Little work is needed, I just need some support to ensure they pass. Dr. Blofeld 20:54, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I'll nom between us. Well I'm currently working on Sisimiut, (Greenland has fascinating scenery just like Alaska) I've added a lot today about the fishing and culture. There is a PDF source used to reference shrimp figures at the beginning of Economy. That source also discusses the environmental problem,/waste the industry creates. Perhaps you could write a little about enviro problems in the town and more about the culture. like seal skinning, local customs etc. Also each of the churches need writing about (only though if you can find details about architecture/interiors) and I think there are some local reservoirs which I spotted on the aerial view which should be writtern about if sources can be found -like water supply etc. You'll find this a very useful link see there is an article on water supply and utility at the bottom. ALso the climate and demographic sections could do with fleshing out. Could you write some text when you feel like it to your sandbox? Its just its best not to add it to the article straight as I'm worried the main article writer will revert that's all. Dr. Blofeld 14:27, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I've added the bit about water, son't worry. If you do find anything useful extra let me know. Dr. Blofeld 17:24, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I've also been working on Oaxaca. It has the potential to be a stunning article. But at present it is missing a lot of lower sections on Literature, Art, Theatre, Healthcare, Transport, Religion, Media . Interested? Sometime we should also promote Kathmandu to GA. Its time for another GA season I think. We can promote your Alaskan articles too if you like. Dr. Blofeld 22:04, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
5 you say? Wow I look forward to seeing them. Dr. Blofeld 10:11, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
OK I've added the sections that are needed of the Oaxaca article to User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 2. Hopefully Thelma can add to them afterwards and then the article can be nominated. Dr. Blofeld 13:57, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Looks great, mention it to Materialscientist. Dr. Blofeld 12:46, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Congratulations on it being Nvvchar day!! For the Oaxaca article I've found something you can add. Can you summarise the national parks/reserves in the state and add it to the article? I've done one of them... Dr. Blofeld 08:42, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh everything is fine with Oaxaca, you can freely add whatever you which providing it is sourced. Nobody is guarding it. But yes I did initially have a conflict with User:Algkalv with the Sisimiut article. i'll find you some sources shortly for the Oaxaca parks. Dr. Blofeld 09:53, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
I've added the parks and some sources that need writing to User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 2. They ar eintended to be summaries and at a later date can be branched out into seperate articles. Dr. Blofeld 10:02, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks. When do you want to nominate one of your Alaska articles for GA? Dr. Blofeld 14:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Glacier Bay I think has potential. Needs polishing up a bit though and there are not enough citations in the centre of paragraphs. I know what you mean about GAs. That has happened to all of the good writers on here including myself, Thelma, even Pericles of Athens. Once you have a bad GA and failure it puts you off bothering with GAs. Dr. Blofeld 15:01, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Lovely work on Shannan, it needs an infobox though. I might be able to find some more economic info from Hudong encyclopedia from Chinese. What browser do you use? I use Firefox. You use Internet Explorer possibly or Google Chrome? Dr. Blofeld 10:17, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Lithium in Tibet
[edit]I have converted that article into a draft for Lake Zabuye as I do not see much future in Lithium in Tibet article - the stats are much too unreliable (and reliable are mirky). The hook could be something like ... that Lake Zabuye is the major source of lithium in China? (Zabuye spelling is taken because it has most hits over proper sources; it would be appropriate to find the original spelling, I think it is in Tibetan language, but I don't know how to find this.) Materialscientist (talk) 11:21, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- I think it can be moved and nominated. The hook is above. Materialscientist (talk) 10:10, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Main page
[edit]HI. I've designed a more sophisticated main page for myself. I've copied it to User:Nvvchar/Main.If you like it and want that as your main page instead of the current boring looking one I'll show you how to add it to your monobook. Dr. Blofeld 17:09, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
First of all do the book images all fit on one line? It does on my browser but not on Ser Amantio's. if one is on another line let me know and I will reduce the px, if not I'll leave it. I also need to know what skin you use. Vecotr, Monobook, Modern, Cologne Blue etc so you can programme it. Dr. Blofeld 09:43, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
OK. Go into your preferences and click appearance. Where it says Custom JS at the end of the monobook skin line click that. Now edit you monobook js and create User:Nvvchar/monobook.js by pasting the below onto the page and save. Then hold down the control buttom and R if you are using firefox or the control and reload button if you are using explorer.
if (wgPageName == "Main_Page") { window.location = "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nvvchar/Main"; }
Dr. Blofeld 10:29, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Am I wasting my time with these instructions? If you don't want your main page say so. Dr. Blofeld 08:41, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Nono, its your monobook, you don't have to ask permission LOL. Try it again. Paste the above into User:Nvvchar/monobook.js. Click Save. Then if you ar eusing firefox hold down Ctrl button and R. It should work. Dr. Blofeld 10:07, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh that, yeah it does that to everybody. Just ignore it and save it. Its only for safety reasons, this is why no other editor is able to edit you monobook. Dr. Blofeld 10:21, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Does this work. If you use firefox hold down control and r on the page to programme it. Dr. Blofeld 11:30, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Hello
[edit]Hello sir!!! How are you?? :) I happened to visit your profile after a long time and was simply captivated by the amount of work you've done since we last met. I appreciate your perseverance and dedication.
By the way, I personally feel that there are not enough GA or FA articles on towns or cities of Tamil Nadu. The only FA we have is Chennai. I had recently got Kumbakonam successfully through GA-assessment. But a lot needs to be done. I feel that Thanjavur, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore and Madurai need to be FAs or atleast GAs but I do not have enough time. Will it be possible to work on these articles, esp. Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli? Bye. Take care. :) -The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 14:42, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
I personally feel that there are not enough GA or FA articles on towns or cities of India full stop!!! Well I did have Kolhapur to expand. Dr. Blofeld 11:48, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Lakes of Tibet
[edit]Hi. I was wondering if you could use your expertise in hydro management to get access to a List of lakes of Tibet. I know that there are well over 1500 lakes in Tibet which I'd like to stub. Can you compile a list? Dr. Blofeld 09:30, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I've added more to Shannan. You may wish to use the url for the Hudong encyclopedia link http://www.hudong.com/wiki/%E5%B1%B1%E5%8D%97%E5%9C%B0%E5%8C%BA to translate into english on google translate -its a pretty good translation from Chinese. It has some more details about agriculture etc. Exercise caution about "golden era" though following 1959 invaison, its Chinese propaganda to show that they did a wonderful development job in take over Tibet. Notice that they do this so frequently when writing about Tibet that it would seem to indicate they feel they are not naturally justified in ruling Tibet and still after all these years feel they need to go out of their way to illustrate how much they did to improve Tibet. Dr. Blofeld 11:26, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I've google translated some info about Gonggar County from Hudong Encyclopedia. Salvage what you can from it which makes sense/reword it so it does. Dr. Blofeld 12:23, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I'd ask User:Russavia if I was you to see if he can add something. I'll try to add something tonight or tomorrow but I'm pretty busy at the moment. Dr. Blofeld 16:32, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi a new article is Baci, a Laotian custom. There should be enough info for a DYK. Interested in expanding it? You may find this page very useful. Dr. Blofeld 09:42, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
OK, I'll see if I can find something on Gonggar today. The only book I have on Tibet doesn't have anthing on it, its pretty basic. I uploaded two photos of the Baci ceremony. If as we write it we need more there are a few more on flickr that can be uploaded. Dr. Blofeld 10:14, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
I did try to find something to translate from Chinese but the article was disgustingly POV. All it did was rant on about the airport's goals and how much benefit the airport has. Seriously the Chinese have major issues with propaganda...They can't have it both ways. If the country is intent on becoming the leading world power at some point they are going to lose control over the power of knowledge to the people. Dr. Blofeld 11:09, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
That should be OK. Dr. Blofeld 14:00, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Super work on Baci! Dr. Blofeld 10:17, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes the centre of Gonggar lies to the east of the airport but it is only a small town. As for Oaxaca it still needs info about its churches in the religion section. The main article on Oaxaca city has text related to churches but there are other churches in the state worthy of mentioning. Then it will need a copyedit and then I'll nominate. Dr. Blofeld 11:03, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't surprise me. The info available for small Tibean towns and villages is still extremely poor. Dr. Blofeld 10:12, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Couldn't find any images I'm afraid. Yeah you see what I mean now about the propoganda. Its absurd the lengths they go to which above all shows they are trying to cover up something. The current PRC government cannot change the fact that they killed thousands of innocent people and destroyed much of Tibet's heritage and they try to make it look as if Tibet improved dramatically after 1959. Dr. Blofeld 11:08, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi I was browsing flickr and found these images of Baxoi County and a lot of mention of Ranwu Lake or Rawok tso pictured here, I think they are same lake located in Baxoi County. Luckily using the google map coordinates I could work out where it is (which is how I managed to find other images of Tibet which are not labelled on flickr. I gather Pashoe is a transliteration of Baxoi.. Would you be interested in a double article hook for both the county and lake? There seems to be some info avaliable on the lake. The scenery is stunning as evidenced by the pictures, I need you to upload these photos using your bot though. First of all we'll post and DYk this Gonggar set. How are we feeling today. Are you still interested in Sirmilik National Park and Baxoi County?Dr. Blofeld 09:20, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Glad you are much better. Six articles hook. Which do you mean? Tibet or Central African parks? Neither need much work I don't think, just a universal references in each of them to support the DYK hook that's all. Yes for Baxoi click the link I gave yo to upload plenty of nice pictures. Lhasa
[edit]Just looking at Lhasa. Its a poor article. It needs to be about 5 times more comprehensive. I think it should be given the Kathmandu/Thimphu treatment sometime. Imagine how much you could cram into the article summarising Lhasa's monasteries/landmarks etc. A lot of text could be used from the existing articles but summarised and reworded perhaps. Maybe it would be best to have a seperate article on Lhasa Prefecture from Lhasa city. This would allow the big unsightly table to go in the perecture article which would summarise the counties of the Lhasa Prefecture and landmarks in the wider prefecture and the Lhasa city article itself would by about the city.
See User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 1 and User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 2.Dr. Blofeld 12:41, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
I've copied the articles on landmarks into the article because a lot of the material which should be included can be recycled and cut down. Maybe the Sera Monastery material should go in the prefecture article as it is outside the city? Now if we can get the Lhasa article to look like Kathmandu!!Dr. Blofeld 14:02, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

The DYK project (nominate) 06:04, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
I've made a good start on this. But it needs sections on other components of the industry like processing, transportation, coffee products, notable coffee companies, schemes, subsidies and debts and other areas etc. You can find further info from here to expand it if you are interested its from source 1 of the article and there might be a lot of info in the 2007 review in the external link which I can't access - I had to copy the text from ref 1 into my user space as I am having problems with the adobe reader on my new PC which means I could only access it through google not wikipedia; I couldn't even access the 2007 review but it looked as if it would be useful. There is also more info on the research in ref 11 in the New Scientist magazine. Also google Sigri Coffee, there is probably enough for a seperate article on it.Dr. Blofeld 12:55, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Great can you replace the PNG with Papua New Guinea though, its supposed to be formal. Are you put off by the Lhasa suggestions?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:40, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
Come on, its Lhasa!! It is well covered in neutral, reliable western books and publications, who said we should rely on Chinese sources? I agree covering the admin side of it will be difficult but all the information on the monasteries/landmarks etc can be documented using western publications.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:53, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
Can you see if you can scrap together enough info form google books or wherever to make Myinmu DYK viable?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:49, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
Super work. Yeah I'm going to be reducing my workload across wikipedia for the next few months. I want to cover Burma by township. Its a big task but a valuable one. Someday population data will become available. Along the way I'll probably be expanding a few towns and township articles so it would be good to collaborate over those if you are interested, I'm still happy to do a regular DYK with you and Rosie but my main focus is now Burma and getting those Antarctica geo stubs started.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:21, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
I've begun expanding Homalin. If you can get it past the stub status I'd be astounded. but you might find more in google books myabe. If not then Kalaymyo should have enough sources I think under its various transliterations -important trading town betwene India and Burma historically I think.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:35, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Wow that's quite excellent. I bet it was very tropical going down the Chindwin in a boat, dense forests and all that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:47, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
I've nominated Kalaymyo but I can't think of a hook for Myinmu or did we nominate it already? Kalewa, Mingin, Banmauk, Indaw and Katha also need expansion, Katha/Kathar would be more difficult to expand x5 I think as it is not a short stub. Needs sources though. What I want eventually is to try to get the main towns of Burma beyond a stub status or at least with some references/info. Tomorrow I'll prepare an article on the Tang Valley in Bhutan from my book which you may be interested in. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:08, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh it seems Kalewa is actually Tahan. Can you verify this for me and make a decision which is the correct name. I have a feeling Kalewa is official but Tahan is the Mizo name for it. It should probably be moved to Kalewa?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:46, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Would that be OK for a hook? I'm not sure. Just been making a few locator maps see Hkamti Township. Very time consuming mking them though requires major concentration. I'm only likely to make one a day.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:01, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Everything doesn;t have to be nominated for DYKs! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:32, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks!!
[edit]Big thanks! Actually I was only thinking the other day that there is no 300 DYK award. I think there should be one. If you are interested in helping with Burma my goal eventually is to have all of the articles in Category:Township capitals of Burma beyond stub class. The main cities and towns. If we can expand one or two every few weeks this would be fine. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:12, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
I'll see if I can nominate those townships then. I've forgotten what has or hasn't been nominated. Can you think or a hook and nominate the outstanding ones? Yes I think it is time we did some more Indian articles. Perhaps something related to Mizun or Assam?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:32, 30 September 2010 (UTC) Homalin, Myinmu Township and Myinmu. I would appreciate your nominating them since Rosiestep is also a contributor. I am planning on expanding Coffee production in India, as a sequel to the one we wrote on Papua Newguinea, and also on Rice production in India. I have not heard from Redtiger for quite some time nor have I seen any of his artciles in the last two months.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 15:12, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Homalin Township also needs a bit of text.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:42, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
I think the best thing would be a three article hook. Did you know that Tamanthi Wildlife Reserve lies in both Hkamti Township and Homalin Township? I added the text to the wildlife article the other day but it needs expansion/rewriting so the info isn't duplicated in each article. Coffee production in India will be interesting.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:15, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Hope you weren't offended by my comments about deleting wikipedia. You might be interested in expanding Jauja and Laguna de Paca.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:31, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh dear you are upset as you haven't spoken to me. We both agree though that 90% of wikipedia is in serious need of improvement though. If only we could mold it into something more consistent and better. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:37, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your edits to Jauca. Peru and Bolivia are kind of like the South American Tibet in terms of vibrant culture/scenery, without the monasteries though!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:44, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I know. I despair all the time because I know however much I put into wikipedia it will only be a tiny chunk of what needs to be done. If every contributor was a good as you then this place would be 100 times better. I personally would be happy to delete at least 20% of wikipedia all the junk we have on fiction. poorly referenced minor footballers etc. Something definitely needs to be done to try to make wikipedia more consistent.♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:32, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

You are an extremely impressive, resourceful writer who is able to find sources on topics which most think can't be expanded. Excellent job. I have made the frame for the river. I need to label it though, i'll upload in about ten minutes.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:07, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. There is practically nobody working on African topics on here, especially countries like Mozambique which obviously have thousands of missing articles. I personally think its very interesting writing articles on any African country as there are 53 to choose from and it is a part of the world which little of us know about yet takes up a considerable amount of the earth's surface.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:29, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I've started Messalo River and Negomano (blue linked in the Lugenda article), It has quite a few hits in google books, a DYK on a Mozambiquan border village would be great!. I almost feel like a British explorer like Livingstone or something "exploring" this part of Africa.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:24, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I hadn't realized we had an article on it. And we do and its a GA! I'm still annoyed with the Thimphu article as you and I both know we could have easily got it up to GA status within a week. Finding it difficult to concentrate today...♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:39, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
I agree, and sadly do many others. More of my noms end up this way than not and when you put a considerable amount of work into an article it is very dismissive to say the least. We should have several hundred thousand good articles on wikipedia. But if this GA nom system is getting this way the chances that editors are going to take articles to featured status is highly unlikely. Later I'm going to start expanding Etang Saumâtre if you are interested, I vaguely recall you saying you had an interest in Haiti previously.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:32, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
At times it is only decent, resourceful contributors such as yourself who keep me here. At times I despair at the sort of people who think articles like Smelly socks and List of Power Rangers episodes perfectly encyclopedic but will happily delete articles which have important historical significance. Wikipedia would be a better place without the sorts of editors with embarrassing double-standards across the site who fuel it with fictional rubbish and neglect articles we should have good articles on.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:05, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
We have Battle of Ngomano in english which is a GA!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:59, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that should be OK now, nice work.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:59, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Have a look at File:Great guitarist montage.jpg. A bit of fun. All of those I thought of myself, you can see how much knowledge I have of guitarists! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:20, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes I've been playing 20 years. Probably my biggest talent. I also play the sitar, piano, violin, harp etc but guitar is my main instrument. I play all sorts of genres, mainly rock and blues but also jazz, country, arabic etc. I composed some Egyptian meditative tracks the other day actually using mainly the phrygian dominant scale, harmonic minor scale, the Persian scale and the Lydian scale. Jazz is by far the most technically demanding and difficult though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:28, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Don't know how to upload OGG files though!! I'll post you some links on youtube of some similar Egyptian music which you might enjoy!♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:58, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btftg6spQW8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ5-lgkVztM&feature=related
Heres some clips on youtube. One of the tracks I composed sounds a lot like the second clip, its in E flat phrygian dominant tuned down half a step though. It sounds good on both the sitar and the classical guitar. Best thing you can do is close your eyes and dream! Very exotic sounding gap between the second and three degrees of the scale gives that effect. The phrygian dominant scale is used a lot in spanish music too. Its the same as the harmonic minor scale but you start the scale from the third degree.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:05, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I haven't no. I'll see if I can find it on youtube. I like a lot of Indian and Oriental music but only in small does, like my interest in the world I try to be open to many types of music.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:31, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Karnatic-electronic fusion isn't it? Interesting. I particularly like western classical music. Vladamir Horowitz is my favourite pianist. Have a listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_6APTb3RNQ (although I think after 1:35 it spoils the piece... )and also a classical guitar piece by a young Serbian female guitarist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4YngQ49dSw. Wonderful.
If you have time tomorrow listen to Andres Segovia also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBQfHJA2Lng&feature=related. A fine guitarist I had to clean up his article a few months back. When I listen to it its almost as if I'm back in the 16th/17th century in some lavish Spanish palace listening to it. That's what I like about this music as it can almost take you back in time! I'm just very cultured I think!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:52, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
The greatest genius of all time I think is Leonardo da Vinci. I cannot think of anybody more universally gifted. The top musical genius composers I think are Johann Sebastian Bach and Frédéric Chopin. I am in awe everytime I listen to a Chopin piece that he could have composed something so spectacular.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:04, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Excellent work, and great to see you writing about Iceland! Iceland always interests me. I'll nom those two Mozambique articles shortly. A fun challenge would be to have a DYK on every country in the world. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:31, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
In two months? Crikey that's over 200 DYKs isn't it? Maybe 6 months, depends on how it goes. Would be nice to create a table with every country and flag and then the DYK. Although we've done many previous countries I say yes start at Afghanistan through to Zimbabwe and DYKs must be nominated in order! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:49, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Bellisimo! As they would say in Italian. I'll see if I can find more sources tomorrow. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:39, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Greetings from McLeod Ganj, Dharamshala, H.P.
[edit]Dear friend - greetings and congratulation on all the amzing contributions you have been making recently! And many thanks for including me as a contributor to the DYK on Shigatse Dzong.
We expect to be here in McLeod Ganj until 5th November when we head on to Chennai, Pondicherry, etc., for about 10 days before returning home to Australia. We have had a remarkable, memorable trip so far. Six weeks driving with old Tibetan friends through Manali, Lahaul, Ladakh, Nubra Valley, Spiti, Kinnaur, Mandi, Kangra, etc., etc. I have thousands of new photos and haven't had time yet to edit more than a few with the view of posting them on WP. Also, although we have better internet connections here than anywhere else except Chennai on this trip, they are still sporadic and slow and the power outages mean works sometimes get lost. Also, I am very busy here visiting old friends (we lived here from 1979-81, studying, etc., so I will probably won't get much work done until after I return home. Anyway, I thought I would take the opportunity of saying hello and letting you know how pleased I am to see your amazing contributions. Keep up the great work! Sincerely, John Hill (talk) 05:58, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

OK thanks for that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:42, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Csn you see if you can find something for Ataq?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:26, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Hehe, if you can expand Ardelve beyond a stub I'll personally give you a barnstar! I'm convinced that it can't be expanded using online info! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Also would you be interested in expanding Verzasca Dam?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:51, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
The only problem with Abaeté River is that the dam is not on that river but is located south of the confluence with the Sao river. Maybe the info on it should be reduced and more said about the river?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:17, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, although the info on the castle was not really needed as it is across the water.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:11, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi. Can you help format the references properly for this article. I think its the only thing which may prevent it from passing GA.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:40, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Well done!

Can you try to add a bit to Ataq to make it start class? Most of the work is done.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:07, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes I completely agree. Sorry to hear about her dear brother. Wish your daughter best of luck with the new house. You've been to Fort Lauderdale? I love southern Florida but every afternoon there seems to be thunder!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:35, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Lafiteau and Fohoren also require your inputs/improvements, you'll be lucky to find info for the first one in particular though. I'll ease off for a few days now and resume with my Antarctica articles.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:45, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. Fohoren only needs a little bit now and I also started Caldera River in Panama whch you might find something on. I also made a relief map for Glacier Bay. Hope your family are OK. God bless. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:43, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

A-Z
[edit]Agreed, two articles for each country from A-Z would be a great idea. I'll draw up a table and begin listing articles for us to write. Should be fun.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:27, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Check out User:Dr. Blofeld/DYK A-Z country challenge. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:48, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Don't you approve? I've made a start with selecting some interesting articles. Please add the name of the Afghan city you wanted to expand.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:48, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh I know, the challenge though is to do an A-Z!! If there are any you specifically want to work on for any of the countries please add it to the list.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:34, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
We;ll being on the A-Z then when you are back in India and your family issues are settled. I've expanded Tirana County, you may wish to add to it.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:20, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
No images I'm afraid, best i could manage is a map. I've begun working on the Lhasa article in your sandbox.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:53, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
I've updated the Lhasa article. PLease expand the Geography and climate section and make it a lot longer and resoureful and make additions for the culture etc. Geography and climate in particular need to be 2-3 times longer. What needs doing is now left in User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 1. I've done most of the part which have PRC POV. It should be possible to compile sources about historical Lhasa/Tibet culture without too much propaganda.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:16, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
DYK nomination of Fohoren
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Fohoren at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 21:44, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Nice start. I've look into the mosque article tomorrow. Can you find a source to support the Fohoren article or find a different hook?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:58, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
It would be best to nominate Id Gah once we've done Samangan Province and Aybak, Samangan. If we could work on those next after your Caldera river edits this would be great.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:40, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I've having trouble with my adobe reader on my new PC which makes it impossible most of the time to access documents. It will work for a bit and then when I click the link again it is blacked out. I'll do what I can though, I've uploaded some photographs.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:46, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Please add some sections on culture/sport/media/healthcare in Lhasa. The article is looking much better now.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:53, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
I've made File:Khulm River.png and created a stub on the Khulm River. We could probably find a hook to include the river article with Samangan in a DYK. For most though best to strictly only create 2 or 3 per country.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:04, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes that is what I was thinking. Great minds think alike! Superb work on Samangan Province. One more I couldn't help writing is Pomegranate production in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is said to be the spiritual home of the pomegranate! While we are on Afghanistan I couldn't help but start this, especially as so much in the articles talks about fruit. I found some nices images which help. There should be a lot more to write about the new Omaid Bahar processing plant in Kabul too. No more for now, I don't to over burden you. I can nominate it as a DYK for just myself but you and Rosie really are a credit so.... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:23, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I've nominated all the Afghan articles, Samangan, Samangan and Khulm was easier as one hook. However both that and the mosque need sources and statements in the articles to back up the hooks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:53, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi, Last night I create a bunch of stubs on major Indonesian rivers. Can we do Indonesia next? Pick any you want to expand and have plenty of sources for List of rivers of Indonesia.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:17, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
How about Pawan River and Lamandau River for starters?♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:20, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
I've started 4 articles that might interest you, one on an Indonesian ethno group, Sakuddei, and three Dutch anthropologists: Reimar Schefold (who studied the Sakuddei), P.E. de Josselin de Jong (someone that Schefold quotes), and J.P.B. de Josselin de Jong (P.E. djdj's uncle; and a father of Dutch anthropology). There will be either 2 double-hooks or 1 quad-hook. Jump in if you feel like working on these, but no worries if you're busy with other things; I left a note with Dr. B also. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:17, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
We could add the Josselin two as Netherlands DYKs. There is also another Indonesia one at Klotok which is an interesting river boat. So it seems Indonesia and Netherlands we are doing next. Maybe you'd also like to write an article about a Dutch building to add to it..♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:49, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Sakuddei looks great! --Rosiestep (talk) 04:15, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Nice work, the klotok unfortunately has a no deriratives license so will be deleeted in the commons. To my knowledge Vinnie hasn't nominated Tirana County yet, I thought he was going to add more.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:20, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Super work. Welcome back to India! I was going to say that there is more info in the bibliography sources but looks as if you found those. Top job. If we can expand Pawan River and Lamandau River next Indonesian and Netherlands will be done for our A-Z..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:11, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for expanding those Dutch anthropologist articles. I appreciate that even more as I didn't know before yesterday that you avoided bios. And an FYI that I'll quad nom Sakuddei, Reimar Schefold, P.E. de Josselin de Jong, and J.P.B. de Josselin de Jong by Tuesday; something like "that of the three Univ of Leiden anthropologists, JPBdjdj, founding father of modern Dutch anthropology, PEdjdj, his nephew, and RS, it was the later who lived among the Sakuddei". --Rosiestep (talk) 20:45, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Good point; I was mulling that fine point myself. May end up as two doubles. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:17, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
Two doubles would be better I think. I've started Breiðamerkurjökull which may interest you. I also think Höfn should be expanded as it even appeared on a very basic outline map of Iceland. If you can find enough sources it should be OK. So we have indonesia and Netherlands done, Iceland next? Yes we'll try to stick to two articles per country. I've nominated Tirana County. We now need another ALbanian one, I'll start Rinia Park a central park of Tirana. After this though if possible I'd like to pretty much go through from A-Z in a coordinated approach.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:43, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
Would you be interested in expanding Religion in San Marino and any in Category:Churches in San Marino? I just saved it from a speedy deletion.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:37, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
I double nom'ed the other 2. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:21, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
I've translated the church info for Religion in San Marino from Italian wikipedia. Sources now need to found to support it. We might find some external links in the Italian wikipedia articles for these churches for potential sources.
I've added a few sources, although a few sections need some more. Can you add info on the remaining churches at here. It is already used a source in the article but there are some missing notable churches needing adding. If you use google translate it should mostly translate very well to get the main facts. I created Basilica di San Marino and have expanded Monte Titano for our San Marino addition, please develop/add sources. Also can you complete your inputs to Rinia Park; the Taivani and Summer Festival sections need expanding/sources added and there is some mention of a sculpture contest held there i think, and then Albania will be done.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:28, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Is it strange for you to edit Christianity related articles? Just asking as I'll avoid them in future if they are not to your liking.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:11, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Monte Titano needs expansion and sources. I've done the initial Italian translation. It is par tof a World Heritage Site. See File:Sanmarino5.jpg. Spectacular views form the top. I'll nominate Rinia Park shortly. Do you want to do Iceland next seems as I started Breiðamerkurjökull? If not I'll make a start on the Abkhazia articles tomorrow.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:36, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
I took the liberty to mention the "World Challenge" on you user page. Its beginning to take shape, hope you find this really interesting. As for interesting articles did you read Sanapia which I expanded the other day?♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:14, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
It was translated from Italian. There should be some sources...♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:39, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Abkhazia
[edit]Good. I've started expanding Otap, blagging together some information. You might find something futher, hopefully some historical info too but there is not much available on it.. We should write Abrskil too I think, which is a national Abkhaz legend described here. Informationabout the cave legend can be written in both the Otap and the Abrskil articles but in more detail in the seperate article. Those two can be a double hook. I trust too you can find sources for Bzyb River? Ther eis a lot about galcial history and the Bzyb massif in here♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:41, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
I've made a start on the Aland Islands with Ålands Museum. PLease expand. More free images are avilable here. If you can find enough sources and enough info we'll expand Kastelholm Castle and Brändö. I'll now wait a day or two for you to add text to this lot.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:30, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
As I said I will not be adding any new ones for us to work on for several days... OK I'll only work on two at a time in future.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:52, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
No worries. Me neither for the cave article but we'll nominate them together as one anyway that's even. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:10, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. OK we'll drop Brando and do the two museums and Kastelholm Castle for Aland. I've nommed all the Abkhazia and Aland ones now. Next is Braye Harbour and Saint Anne, Alderney for the lovely Channel Island of Alderney. Not sure if enough sources can be found for Saint Anne but we'll see. I won't be editing much today but I'll try to make a start with Braye Harbour but there's no rush as you say. I tend to work like that I'll feel like doing loads one day and none at all another day..
I've started Mignot Memorial Hospital, Alderney. It can be expanded to 3kb I think using this and this and any other info you can find. I'll start Alderney Society Museum which is more interesting... Braye Harbour can still be expanded and we can decide if we want to do St Anne which requires the most work later.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:51, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
OK, thanks. Do you want to do Braye Harbour? That was the one I really wanted to expand.. Plenty of sources... St Anne would require too much work I think. If not I'll start on Umnak and Makushin Volcano this afternoon, you like Alaska right? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:05, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
OK. Great Mosque of Algiers, Ghardaïa and Fort Santacruz it is then..♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:09, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry about it. I think we should move on to Algeria. I get the impression you would rather get the solid countries done first and then do the "entities" and "islands" later. The reason I've added many islands and entities to the list is they oftne have a different culture and identity from the mainland or rest of the country.. i'll begin working on Ghardaia later...♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:10, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
The important thing is that we enjoy it. If the workrate is too much for you we'll slow down and take it at a more leisurely rate. I don't mind either way as I have other work to do on wikipedia... If you would rather do work on another country and not in A-Z order this is also fine by me. Whatever you are happiest with.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:15, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
OK I was added infoboxes to US virgin Islands and expanded Belvedere, United States Virgin Islands. pick another US virgin islands article of your choice and we'll nominate them. How about Sugar production in the United States Virgin Islands. The two can then be nominated as a double... There is a wonderful resource and images located here and here. I think they might be public domain images. Very interesting stuff. There's loads of info in the side heading pages on sugar mills, notable plantations owners and families to make it more comprehensive and should be loads to be found on it...♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:35, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
Excellent work, I've nominated., needs citation though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:09, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Are you interested in Sugar production in the United States Virgin Islands. If not I'll nominate it solely..♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:58, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
OK. If you want to continue with Algeria in a few days time let me know. you kow if you want we can do a series on Indian architecture if you like to have an article on a structure for each Indian state or something... We could do it in turn, do a country article and then an Indian article. I'd be perfectly happy to do so...♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:11, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Nicely done. I can't find a source though to confirm what Braye means.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:42, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Ah OK , you must like Alderney!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:28, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Good job. I've found some photos albeit not very good ones. I'm, surprised there seems to be few available. We;ll nominate Braye and St Anne as a double then. I'm going to be stubbing Antarctica geographical features today so I'll let you begin on Algeria in your own time. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:36, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Why did you remove the reference?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:33, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
I found some images of Algiers mosques here and here. Shame though that they are for the Ketchaoua Mosque!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:55, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that's the thing you spot attractive buildings like that and feel intrigued, I'll make a start on Ghardaia later then. Interesting you working in Algeria.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:41, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
I've done some expansion of Saint Anne, Alderney. I think it can use another cat, such as city/village of UK, but I'm unclear which one would be appropriate given that the Channel Islands have a different status within the UK. The infobox seems ok; I couldn't find anything else to expand it. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:45, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Wow congrats on all the DYKs!! I could barely find anything on the fort. I will begin on Fagtago later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:03, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
This source suggests it has an elevation of 2036 metres not 1800.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:42, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Most scholarly papers on the volcano all say 2036 metres as does ENcyclopedia Britannica. Those figures are too precise to not be accurate I think..I;ll state (other sources say 1800.m) ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:19, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
Theres more images in here .See if you can access them. In oe of the image you can see inside the volcano.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:44, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

[edit]After we finish Aleutians alright by you if we do Burma? Its just I've been doing some work this evening and spotted that there was no article on Tanintharyi (best known as Tenasserim) and Great Tenasserim River is a sub stub. The river is a major river of southeastern Burma. If you search google books under Tenasserim there is wealth of sources from the British Burma period and also some update to date info on dams etc. We may as well do Kanmaw Island too while we're at it seems as I've made such outstanding maps for it... !! Its a new article..♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:50, 13 November 2010 (UTC)
We can just do one article per country if you'd prefer. Its just usually when you come across a country there are at least two articles you want to write I find.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:55, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Look, we're not the ones causing problems. Aside from a few minor source issues my nominations are generally fine. It is fussy people probing over our nominations as if we haven't got more important things to be getting on with which are causing issues. Stating a X because the article was marginally short comes across as petty to me. If they don't like our hooks they should alter them, I really don't care. The most important thing is that we have written these articles for which we should both be commended for. Appearing on the main page is a nice touch. Good job on the mosque article, I'll nominate shortly.♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:43, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes the volcano is a nice article, pretty comprehensive after reading up on it I think. I'm thinking maybe we should limit our output to one article per country/entity. As you say at this rate it will take over a year. I would rather that we cover every entity first and then we can create further ones at a later date and record them for whatever country we feel like. On the way if you spot additional articles you really want to write they can go on a list somehwere for future reference.. I would feel happier if we limited it to one article. Also it would stop the problem we have with double hook nominations... I know there are multiple interesting places for each country but I want to be getting through the list... OK We have one for Aleautians now, that'll do. We have one for Burma which should just scrape DYK.
I think we should shoot ahead and do Fagatogo, American Samoa, Sanctuary of Meritxell (Andorra) etc. One. Is this OK with you?♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:06, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
OK two it is then but strictly no more than two... Did you want to do Umnak Island? We can wait until we reach Burma in the A-Z to do the river and province, both are very short articles anyway. Or we can count Kanmaw Island and do the Great Tenasserim River to accompany it and get it out of the way.... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:19, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
I've nominated theKetchaoua Mosque but it need a citations for the mosque turned cathedral turned mosque..♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:47, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Well spotted. My connection is slow today must be heavy online Christmas shopping traffic. OK then we'll do the Great River of Burma to complete two next followed by Unmak and then India if you wish, then American Samoa.. .♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Wow nice work. Well I started Parque Batlle in my own course of editing. If you would like it to become part of our Uruguay work this is fine. I'd like to expand Montevideo properly as its a major South American city yet very uncomprehensive. If its too much for you, we can try something else but it is a core Uruguay article which is really lacking decent content. Its got a half edecent history section, that's about it. There must be truckloads of landmarks and other things interesting to write about the city.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:38, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
No, not at all. I am very grateful for your edits. I didn't ask you as I thought it would be be too much! But my intention eventually is to complete the barrios of Montevideo and make maps for them but most will be stubs... By all means we may as well make it our Uruguay coverage. What do you think about writing the Montevideo article? Its terribly sparse in most parts of it, there should be plenty of sources for such a capital city.... We can leave the Great Tenaasserim river and move on if you like, unless you've started on it... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:54, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Your contributions are tremendous Narasipur.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:00, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Well it will be around 80 when I've translated Montevideo. Then with further edits 5 x should be straightforward... I'm working on the translation today. luckily most of it is sourced... I'm going to invite several Spanish translaters to help.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:23, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll begin working on it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Montevideo. Don't be disheartened by what the GA reviewers said. Both Thimphu and Kathmandu could become GA and I will promote them in due course. I promoted Sisimiut under difficult conditions didn't I? I've moved the translation into the workspace so it can be a gradual development.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:31, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Making good progress with Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Montevideo. Once translated I am certain you will very much enjoy writing about it, theres tons of museums and interesting monuments to write about. Each of the existing sections like the cathedral, Solis Theatre can also easily be expanded. I'm quite enjoying this article.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:20, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes I will help you promote it. I've added expand sections to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Uruguay/Montevideo which will need writing which I'd like you to add too. Don't worry about the refs they'll be fixed soon enough as well as the whole article translated. The majority of the info that is needed is cultural, particularly architecture so I'm sure you'll find it interesting. Its currently on 90 kb. Actually the prose level was much lower than 27 kb originally if you include infobox images and lists. But ifwe write fair sized sections it should be easy to make the full x5 expansion. If some sources you find are in Spanish use google translate, you'll usually be able to easily decipher what it means...♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:57, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
OK the "juicing" is done. Don't be put off by the current 184kb size. One translated and the weak parts written in it will be fully condensded and processed and sourced to give a balanced and very informative, comprehensive article. After the cutting is done it should be down to 140-150kb which is perfectly fine for the DYK nom. The reason why I've put a lot into this is that you look on a map of the world and Montevideo is on of the biggest cities in the whole of the Americas and the article was extremely lacking. Plus I find it a very intereresting city. Still needs a lot of work but we are in no rush this week as we also have your GA to attend to. If a few of us work together as we have been we should have it sorted by the end of the week.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:43, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Montevideo should be polished off by this time tomorrow. Unfortunately I've encountered some trouble today, half of it was somebody removing the content I had started to develop for the Lhasa article. Maybe you were intuative to stay away from editing it. Don't worry I dont have any plans to expand articles so much in the nearer future, but the article really need this work on it I think given that it was a capital city. How is the GA nom going? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello. You recently added a citation to a book from the "Webster's Quotations, Facts and Phrases" series published by Icon Group International to this article. Unfortunately, Icon Group International is not a reliable source - their books are computer-generated, with most of the text copied from Wikipedia (most entries have [WP] by them to indicate this, see e.g. [1]).
I've only removed the reference, not the text it was referencing. A lot of similar references have been removed as they are circular references; many other editors have also been duped by these sources. Despite giving an appearance of reliability, the name "Webster's" has been public domain since the late 19th century. Another publisher to be wary of as they reuse Wikipedia articles is Alphascript Publishing. Fences&Windows 00:16, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've started an essay on what I think might count as 'unreliable sources', see User:Fences and windows/Unreliable sources. It might be moved into Wikipedia space at some point. Feel free to suggest additions. Fences&Windows 19:57, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

DYK for Ghardaïa
[edit]On 19 November 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ghardaïa, which you created or substantially expanded. Yes, sorry the article s talking a little longer that I'd planned. Its at that difficult stage now when it needs sources and to be cleaned up. I would have edited last night but I was very poorly treated yesterday. If you read my Response: you'll see my explanation if you are interested. But if people mess with my work and rant on about me to not create content I get angry. I'm sure you would too if somebody deleted your lovely list of Indian heritage sites into a scruffy bulleted list and then leave you a malicious message ordering you to NOT created sourced content.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:51, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Well a one way street is better off with people staying out of the away and allowing you to pass...... At times human beings can be unbearable and bring out the worst in everybody, why else is human history plagued with wars eh? It would be nice to be saintly 100% of the time but the actions of others at times can brng out the worst in people when it could have been avoided with initial decency. I'm a strong believer in treating people exactly the way they treat you. Its almost there now. There is more info on the Montevideo shopping center here. Today and tomorrow I will scout for more sources and cleanup add a little more text. It needs to be around 130kb. There should be info about the Montevideo carnaval somewhere and the Gaucho festival too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:27, 19 November 2010 (UTC)

There is still a little bit on the Zorrilla museum in Punta Carretas to add in. Please expand demographics three fold using http://www.ine.gub.uy/fase1new/montevideo/montevideo_pres.pdf, oh its in Spanish, so might be difficult for you... Also citations are needed in those identified and references needing filling out and checking. It should be finished after you and Hoverfish complete your inputs..♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:23, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Good. Did you see Material Scientist's message on my talk page? Personally I am not bothered whether or not the article appears on the front page or not, the most important thing for me is that articles are expanded and I enjoy writing them. Its just nice for a few people to view our work and approve of it.I would rather be spending the time writing articles rather than finding wonderfully interesting hooks for readers. Our hooks have been regarded as dull apparently especially those where we have to word it to fit in double noms. For me DYK is just a bonus. But I think you are moticated by it. Perhaps you could nominate the articles we write instead in future instead of me as I say I really don't put a lot of thought into it. I'd be happy just writing articles with you and not bothering with DYK but I know you wouldn't... I really don't get any buzz out of whatspever. Even 5000 page views foe me is unremarkable given the Internet world population and the amount of people who use wikipedia. I get more of a buzz about writing on parts of the world which are poorly covered and obscure topics whether or not they appear on the main page or not... As you can see before I met you I rarely used to nominate my articles, I've written thousands of articles and only 350 odd have appeared on th main page, largely thanks to you!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
O wow. Well done! I had intended to copyedit it today too now that Montevideo is just about wrapped up!! American Samoa next?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:32, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
For consistency sake can you and Rosie start writing the access date as November 21, 2010? I think it looks nicer than the 2010-11-21 format. This way when we collaborate it will be consistant! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:50, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
