eXo Platform is an open source, standard-based, enterprise Digital Collaboration software platform[1][2] written in Java and distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License. The platform is sold and distributed by eXo Platform SAS[3] as either on-premises software or as a software as a service.
Software history
[edit]eXo Platform started in 2002 as an implementation of the JSR168 - Portlet API specification. Several introduction articles were then published between 2003 and 2005 on TheServerSide Java news website.[4] [5]As a side effect, the eXo Platform Project grew into a company - eXo - in 2003, as a response to the first customer demand, the U.S. Department of Defense (United States Joint Forces Command). [6] Late 2005, eXo Platform v2 was released. [7][8] In 2006 eXo introduced the WebOS concept where an Enterprise Portal Layout could reproduce a Desktop UI[9][10] In August 2008, eXo All in One 1.0 was released. It was the first version of the software that gathered portal, content management and collaboration capabilities under the same collaboration software package[11]. In September 2010, eXo Platform 3.0 was released, adding a ready-to-use intranet user experience on top of the traditional enterprise portal framework. In May 2013, the 4th of eXo Platform[12] was introduced adding extensive Enterprise Social Networking and Social Integration capabilities. [13][14] By December 2013, eXo offered a cloud based intranet product. [15][16]
