Maha Bayrakdar
[edit]Maha Muhammad-Khair Bayraqdar Al-Khal (1947) Syrian-Lebanese poet and painter. She was born and raised in Damascus. She graduated from the Visual Arts Center in 1967, and then graduated from the Graduate School of Translation in Munich, Germany, in 1979. She joined the Lebanese poet Yusef Al Khal in 1970. She has worked in journalism as a writer, painter, and worked as a producer and presenter for television and radio programs in Damascus. . She wrote a lot of children's songs and religious songs.[1]
Personal life
[edit]She married the poet Yusef Al-Khal[2] in 1970 in Cyprus. She was 25 years old when she got married, with an age difference between her and him is 31 years. They married a civil marriage before the civil marriage was known in Lebanon. After her marriage to him, she chose Christianity. As for Yusef al-Khal, he was from the Protestant community and she was from the Sunni community. Yusef Al-Khal passed away on March 9, 1987. She stated in 2017 that the Syrian war had given her "a deep sadness and depression."
