Violence against Dalit women encompasses a range of violent crimes perpetrated against Dalit women in India. Violence against Dalit women falls under the larger issue of Caste-related violence in India where historically, members of lower caste communities, especially Dalit men, women and children have been subjected to discrimination, exclusion, and acts of communal violence in different parts of the country. ^[1] These crimes are prevalent against Dalit women residing in different states of India across religions. Violence against Dalit women includes various kinds of sexual assault as well as murder, torture, domestic abuse, communal violence and more.

Cases of violence

Among cases of violence, those involving sexual assault that received media mentions include the Karamchedu Massacre, Vachathi case, incidents in Sonkhed, Bolsa, Izzatgaon, Tuljapur villages in the state of Maharashtra.
