Hi! I'm Alex. I grew up in St. Augustine, FL and now live in Atlanta, GA. I hold a PhD in English from the University of Georgia. Currently, I teach English to first-year students at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a focus on multimodal composition, public-facing research communication, and social justice.
I am in the process of revising my first book, Fanaticism, Yes! Literary Fan Cultures of the Early Twentieth Century. I have also begun researching my second book, Hollywood Regionalism, which will examine Hollywood studio era film adaptations of novels and short stories by American women regionalists.
My work
My summer 2019 class (ENGL 1101) is adding biographies of notable women in STEM history to Wikipedia. In addition to overseeing and assisting with my students' contributions, I create and edit articles relating to the women writers I research.
My spring 2019 classes (ENGL 1102: Technologies of Adaptation in the Hollywood Studio Era) worked on updating Wikipedia entries about American women writers and film adaptations of their work.
