The tribe Heliantheae (sensu lato) contains about 3500 species in about 300 genera worldwide. It is primarily a North American tribe, with the highest concentrations in the south-west, although some genera occur in tropical and subtropical regions of South America and the Old World.[1]
- See "Asteraceae - Tribe Heliantheae" (University of Hawaii), which lists the subtribes from "Systematics, Evolution, & Biogeography of Compositae" (2009):
- Ecliptinae (incl. Calyptocarpus, Melanthera, Sphagneticola)
- Engelmanniinae (incl. Balsamorhiza)
- Helianthinae (incl. Helianthus, Scalesia)
- Rudbeckiinae (incl. Rudbeckia)
- Spilanthinae (incl. Acmella)
- Zinniinae (incl. Echinacea, Zinnia)
