Dark Army new article content ...
Also known as the "Spirits of Cedar Bridge", the term "Dark Army" refers to a group of soldiers during the Revolutionary War who were killed and/or wounded during an ambush that occurred outside of the Cedar Bridge Tavern on December 27, 1782. Located about 3/4 mile off of Route 72 in Barnegat, New Jersey, this site is now a private home.
The first sighting of the "spirits" dates all the way back to the time of the Civil War. It has been said that a group of men, just passing through the area stopped for a rest. They stoked up a fire and after a short while, they heard the sound of gun shots in the distance.
